Job Summary and Description:
The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) conducts a broad range of technology research for electric utilities around the world. This position will lead the Enterprise Architecture team to solve challenges and improve the practice of the Enterprise Architecture discipline at electric power utilities.
The successful candidate will be able to prove deep expertise in one or more of the following Enterprise Architecture domains:
Business Architecture:
Strategic planning/capability-based planning
Motivation and strategy modeling
Business capability modeling
Gap Analysis
Road mapping
Investment portfolio planning
Application Architecture:
Application Portfolio Management
ArchiMate and other application modeling
Technology risk/debt/health/mitigation analysis
Technology capabilities
Functional analysis and reference architectures
Systems Integration:
The IEC CIM
UML and other data modeling
Data exchange formats e.g. XML, Json, RDF
Data exchange protocols e.g. SOAP and RESTful
Web service design and enterprise integration patterns.
Cloud integration techniques
Data Management:
Data Management frameworks (DMBOK/DCAM)
Data Quality measurement and correction
Data Governance
Data Architecture
Additional Duties & Responsibilities:
Collaborating with EPRI members, internal technical teams, and sub-contractors is required. Strong proficiency in written and oral communications and a comfort with meeting experts around the world to identify and transfer valuable research. The successful candidate will be expected to:
Engage with architects at member utilities to identify research and funding opportunities
Lead projects to improve the maturity of Enterprise Architecture and Systems Integration at utilities worldwide
Manage and develop a worldwide team
Manage project and team budgets
This person is recognized as a subject matter expert and is involved in the research work of other public and private organizations in this field. Maintains deep expertise in the practice and evolution of Enterprise Architecture and systems integration across all industries.
Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Advanced degree in science/engineering or equivalent experience required
A minimum of 15 years' experience in EA and related fields.10-15 or more years of Enterprise Architecture experience
Ability to recognize strategic issues and work collaboratively to develop and transfer solutions
Ability to digest complex issues and challenges into simpler and succinct communication
Self-starter, team player and continual learner
Ability to build on the work of others
Ability to facilitate large in-person or virtual workshops to identify opportunities, challenges and define solutions
Experience in successful proposal preparation, and marketing activities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Managing an Enterprise Architecture team
Electric power utility experience is preferred but not required
Thorough understanding of EA frameworks such as TOGAF and modeling languages such as ArchiMate is required
Thorough understanding of domain specific frameworks, methods and tools in one or more of business, application, data management and systems integration
Proven ability to work in teams and across an organization at multiple levels
Demonstrated ability to model concepts in Unified Modeling Language (UML) class diagrams
Understanding of the IEC Common Information Model (CIM) and related standards is required for application and data architects
Understanding of the maturity model paradigm, e.g. Capability Maturity Model (CMM)
MS in a computer-related discipline (CIS, CS, MIS), MBA, or equivalent experience desired
TOGAF 9/10 Certified desired
ArchiMate Foundation desired
10 years' experience as an enterprise architect

The salary range for this position is $160,000 USD to $180,000 USD annually.
This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI's annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI's standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).
