We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join Optum Advisory as the Senior Director of Actuarial Health Intelligence. As the Senior Director, you will be responsible for overseeing our Actuarial Health Intelligence data warehouse and analytics capability. In this role, you will drive the strategic direction of our actuarial analytics product offerings which leverage data-driven insights to support clinical decision-making and optimize financial performance for our Optum Advisory customers. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and growing commercial offerings that leverage Optum's extensive access to various data stores.

Primary Responsibilities:
Analytics Capability Development:
Lead the development and implementation of measures, analytics, and semantic data models to support payer underwriting and employer BI
Define new reporting data sources and document potential usages to expand the scope of business intelligence solutions
Work with Actuarial Data Warehouse engineering team to implement enhancements, and oversee technical and business user testing to assure quality of new capabilities
Define metrics, summarizations and modeling data structures to be used in BI reporting experiences
Identify opportunities to leverage data analytics to optimize population health management, member and provider engagement, and health plan financial performance
Underwriting and Employer Business Intelligence Product Strategy:
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop new business intelligence (BI) solutions supporting employer group analytics and payer underwriting that capitalize on Optum's intelligence and benchmark data
Identify market opportunities and conduct competitive analysis to inform product development and positioning
Drive the development and implementation of product roadmaps, pricing strategies, and go-to-market plans
Collaborate with actuarial teams to analyze claims experience, utilization patterns, and cost trends to inform pricing, product development, and financial planning
Oversee the production and delivery of business intelligence offerings using warehouse data
Client Delivery and Sales
Support business intelligence solution sales through client presentations and demonstrationsLead client onboarding process
Work with client leadership to understand and document customization requirements and design
Engage Optum BI and Actuarial Data Warehouse (ADW) teams to deliver client customization capabilities
Team Leadership and Management:
Recruit, develop, and manage a high-performing team members to support employer and underwriting business intelligence of data engineers, data scientists, actuaries, and analytics experts, providing guidance, coaching, and mentoring
Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning
Establish performance metrics and goals for the team, ensuring adherence to project timelines and deliverables
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including executive leadership, finance, underwriting, and product development teams, to align actuarial strategies with business objectives
Represent the actuarial function in cross-functional initiatives and external engagements, providing subject matter expertise and strategic guidance

Required Qualifications:
10+ years of health care analytics experience focusing on business intelligence and reporting for payer and employers
7+ years of analytical and problem-solving skills, with expertise in data manipulation, statistical modeling, and predictive analytics
5+ years of experience leading and managing actuarial teamses, data scientists, or analytics teams, with a track record of delivering high-quality results
Experience in product strategy and development within the healthcare industry
Proficiency in actuarial data analytic software (e.g., SAS, SQL, Python) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
Proven excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex actuarial concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $156,400 to $268,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
