What You'll Do:
The following will be performed under the direction of a journeyman industrial maintenance mechanic or supervisor:
Learn to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all mechanical components of plant equipment.
Learn to diagnose, troubleshooting, alignment, repair, and maintenance of mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components such as the boiler, turbine generator, pumps, control valves, fans, other rotating equipment, and associated piping.
Learn to operate machine shop and portable machine equipment such as lathes, shapers, drill presses, milling machines, boring bars and similar machining equipment to produce accurate tolerance on all shapes including those not readily machined on standard machine tools under the direction of journeyman or supervisor. Develop simple jigs and fixtures as necessary and performing precision fitting of component parts as required.
Assist in the use of monitoring equipment such as vibration and thermal test equipment, to assess equipment conditions.
Learn to perform electric arc and oxyacetylene structural welding to repair equipment. Perform oxyacetylene cutting, heating, and brazing piping and structural components.
Erect and remove scaffolding and perform rigging, lifting and blocking.
Operate and maintain mobile equipment such as manlifts, forklifts, backhoes, etc. and perform pre-use inspections.
Assist with preparing, updating and maintaining records and documentation as required.
Obtain basic knowledge of industrial processes and systems

Experience: Without degree, add 3 years applicable experience. With accredited, associate's degree (2 years) one-year applicable experience: With Certificate of Completion (18 months) one-year applicable experience. Completion of AEP Apprentice progression. Job experiences relative to this position: Steel mills, paper mills, nuclear, nuclear navy service, chemical, oil refinery, power plant, or similar industry.
Licenses/Certifications: Must possess the appropriate State driver's license

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Successful completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test is required for this position.

Must be willing to work rotating shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays.
Minimum long-distance travel required but the inspection of remote equipment is a daily requirement for this position.
Must respond to callouts in both outage and non-outage work to maintain and support business operational needs and schedules.
Must be able to learn and comply with all applicable plant operating instructions and procedures.
Must be able to learn and comply with the rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work environment and report unsafe conditions and practices.
Must learn and have a working knowledge of Safety and Environmental guidelines.
Must be able to learn and properly use the tools and equipment applicable to work duties.
Must be able to read, interpret and work from simple prints and specifications.
Communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
Demonstrate professional conduct and effective interactions with employees, contractors and others.
Must be willing and able to work inside designated confined space entry areas, elevated areas and in hot and cold temperatures.
Must be able to wear respirator when required.
Train for firefighting, first aid, AED and other emergency response programs as required.
Demonstration of applicable knowledge, skills and abilities are required for next progression within job family.

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: M - Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
