The Travel Accountant 1 provides support to the travel section of the Comptroller's Office by providing efficient and effective processing of travel related business and enforcing the guidelines of the state travel office by utilizing PPM 49. Reports to the Accountant Supervisor 2 which is also the Travel Manager and in the absence of the Accountant Supervisor 2 reports to the Accountant 2.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
A bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR
An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
CBA Administrator: This position is a CBA cardholder. Must audit and approve travel documentation inclusive of but not limited to airfare, lodging, rentals, and registration requests prior to payment to verify compliance with the Office of State Trave land SUBR's internal policies. Maintains related documentation for the payment of the CBA account.
Prepares CBA schedule, reconciles CBA transactions to the monthly Bank of America statement and journalizes charges. Acts as travel agent for the University and also as the liaison between traveler and hotel, airline, car rental agencies, state travel agents, and Division of Administration. Provides needed information to hotels and airlines to ensure reservations and payments for travelers are completed. Primarily responsible for scanning and uploading necessary documentation into the Bank of America "Works " system as required by the Office of State Travel and reviews documentation from travelers ensuring that the documents are accurate and complete, and incompliance to support the charges prior to uploading.
Audits travel reimbursements and travel advances for both the Baton Rouge Campus and Board and System to ensure accuracy before requesting check processing for said documents. Reconciles travel suspense account to ensure that all transactions are expensed to the proper general ledger account and that the account is zeroed on a monthly basis. Responsible for submitting payroll deduction information to payroll section for travelers with outstanding balances after reconciliation and creating departmental invoices to pay travelers owed funds by the university.
Processes journal vouchers for all travel transactions related to reimbursements, advances, reconciliations, suspense clearing, deductions, receipts, and adjusting entries.
Audits special meal requests to ensure both State and University compliance prior to processing. Works closely with Accountant 2 by reviewing travelcard(T-Card) requests for signatures and financial compliance prior to processing. Maintains filing system for all travel documents inclusive of all CBA transactions, advance requests, reimbursement requests, and journal vouchers.
Reconciles mileage submitted by university employees on a monthly basis and approves reimbursement requests for mileage from the Board of Directors and SUBR employees. Prepares the quarterly mileage report utilized to track funds paid and mileage driven per fund for both SUBR and Board &System.
