This role offers a flexible schedule, NO weekends and plays a huge role in your local community! This position will prepare meals to serve or package for various populations from youth to adult and/or transport in bulk to satellite meal sites. In larger kitchens, this position will support a team of cooks/kitchen helpers in these duties. Job Requirements: Prepare quality meals using LSS menus and recipes to serve to community dining, Meals on Wheels, Meals to Go, schools and day cares. Utilize batch cooking to ensure meals are as fresh as possible and pleasing both in appearance and in taste. Knowledge of quantity cooking: the ability to follow standardized recipes and convert measurements to accommodate the number of meals needed. To understand and maintain budgeted raw food cost per meal through ordering food using approved order guides with wholesale and with food banks. To assist all cooks in ordering and maintaining inventory of all food and dry goods/utensils/paper products. To know and understand good body mechanics and proper lifting techniques as there is much lifting into and out of ovens, coolers, freezers. The ability to lift up to 50 lbs at a time. To assist in keeping the kitchen, coolers, freezers and all appliances clean and sanitized. To be able to read and follow recipes and instructions and be able to communicate with all kitchen staff, work together as a team. Knowledge of computer use would be good and be able to assist with filling out paperwork. Knowledge of all kitchen equipment and utensils usage. Knowledge of Health Department regulations. To have or take the Servsafe course, pass and be certified. Represent LSS in a professional manner through adhering to dress code and personal hygiene practices. Represent LSS as the provider of this service, engaging with diners to promote a welcoming and inviting atmosphere. Valid driver's license preferred The successful candidate must be cleared by a Bureau of Criminal Affairs (BCA) background study and have a drivers' license; a Motor Vehicle Check (MVR) is required.
