We are seeking a cybersecurity domain expert to oversee daily operations and strategic initiatives within our Information Security team. Key responsibilities for you will include managing the collaboration and orchestration of activities of the privacy, compliance and risk management teams. You will collaborate with security staff and the Executive Leadership to develop performance indicators, assess and report findings, and the continuous growth and improvement of both programs and people.
This work requires an innovative and strategic leader who will develop and mature processes and programs. You will collaborate closely with teams across the organization to develop the programs that actively monitor, assess, prioritize and report on privacy, compliance and risk. Some of the daily opportunities include:
Coordinating activities across teams to produce valuable guidance for decision makers.
Managing day-to-day security operations, driving key initiatives, and ensuring the protection of our digital assets across a distributed enterprise.
Overseeing the implementation and maintenance of security tools, processes, and controls across the organization.
Collaborating to ensure alignment of security initiatives with business objectives.
Driving continuous improvement in program development.
Ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards (e.g., IRS, SSA, ISO 27001, NIST, SOC 2, and others).
Developing and reporting on key security metrics and KPIs to senior leadership.
Supporting audits, risk assessments, and third-party security reviews.
Mentoring and developing team members, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
Actively engaging in improving leadership skills, attitudes, and knowledge, especially as related to equity, diversity and inclusion. Attending training, development and group training on topics of inclusive leadership.

A wide salary range is posted for this position and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and state seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. While most salary offers are made within the posted range, occasionally an offer is made below or above the posted range based upon this salary analysis.
This is a skills-based job announcement. The required minimum qualifications and/or education (if substituting for the proven experience, knowledge, and skills), are as follows:
Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of six (6) years of experience as an information security professional. This experience must include a minimum of three (3) years experience managing information security professionals.
A minimum of (3) years of experience with technical regulatory compliance and risk management, performing assessments and reporting findings.
Substitutions:
Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.
Training or Certification related to the work assigned to the position will be assigned credit towards substitution for experience and/or education, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.
If the minimum qualifications include a degree requirement, additional appropriate paid or unpaid experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous public sector experience.
Relevant certifications (ie: CISSP, CISM, Security+).
Proven success in communicating tactical and strategic issues and opportunities to a broad range of IT and community stakeholders.
Personal style that demonstrates a collaborative approach to lead and influence across internal and external stakeholders.
Conditions of Employment:
OIT candidates and employees must comply with any screening procedures in place at state entity locations where they might be required to perform work.
A pre-employment background check will be conducted as part of the selection process.
Positions supporting some agencies such as the Department of Corrections and the Department of Public Safety will also require a pre-employment drug test.
This position may require travel within the specified geographic area, and to locations across the state as needed.
This position may require on-call duties as needed by the position.
Supplemental Information
If this posting indicates "remote from anywhere in CO" in the title, periodic reporting to the primary state work location designated for the position is required. All remote work must be performed in Colorado.
While candidates from out of state will be considered for this role, the candidate selected for the position must relocate and reside in Colorado on the first day of their new position.
