Are you ready to lead in a dynamic, high-performing department with over 100 team members? We're seeking an Associate Director, RN Clinical Documentation to help drive excellence in clinical documentation and coding workflows. You'll be one of six Associate Directors, each with a consistent reporting structure and strong support from our robust CDI education and audit team.
This is a fully remote position and available if you live in the following states only: AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI & WY. This position is fully remote with travel less than 15% of the time to either a Banner corporate or hospital site. With this remote work, candidates must be self-motivated, possess moderate to strong tech skills and be able to meet daily and weekly productivity metrics. Business hours are Monday-Friday, 8 hour shifts with no weekends or holidays.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position manages the operations, quality, and education of the enterprise clinical documentation improvement (CDI) team. Establishes and monitors CDI workflows, productivity expectations and compliance standards. Actively participate in data collection and analysis for enterprise, facility, provider, and staff metrics. Facilitate communications on documentation opportunities, coding and reimbursement issues and overall performance improvement methodologies to staff and stakeholders.
CORE FUNCTIONS
Assists in the planning, direction and monitoring of the enterprise clinical documentation improvement program in conjunction with organizational goals and objectives.
Participates in multidisciplinary process improvement activities, which may include steering committee oversight to attain optimal clinical, operational and financial outcomes. Participates in the development of system policy, procedures, and performance tools for program improvement. Provides consultative expertise on acute care coding process, diagnostic related groups (DRGs) and reimbursement methodologies to a multitude of organizational teams.
Provides assistance to multifunctional teams in the design and distribution of educational programs associated with clinical documentation for staff and physicians. Participates in the development and implementation of action plans based on meeting system initiatives and implements strategies to work with internal and external customers to ensure quality of the clinical documentation system.
Provides education, coaching, and mentoring to staff to promote system integrity and achievement of department targets and goals. Compiles resource information that will extend the knowledge and enhance the interpretive skills of clinicians. Recognizes successes and identify ongoing opportunities by collaborating with clinicians and coding to improve program efficiencies.
Manages personnel actions including recruiting, new hire actions, interviewing and selection of new staff, salary determinations, training and annual evaluations. This position also participates in the development of departmental goals and objectives in accordance with company standards.
Participates in the development and management of the department budget. Assists in managing the financial and capital resources for the clinical documentation program and developing and implementing new or revised programs and/or services.
Prepares, analyzes, presents and disseminates performance reports for activities associated with the clinical documentation program on an ongoing basis for system, facility and department comparison.
Maintains current knowledge on laws, regulatory changes and actual practices, which affect clinical documentation, DRG assignment and reimbursement methodologies.
Provides leadership, direction and support for the enterprises clinical documentation program throughout the organization. Provides system-wide consultative expertise on coding process, DRGs and reimbursement methodologies to a multitude of organizational teams.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a level of education as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor's degree in nursing, or equivalent experience.
Requires Registered Nurse (RN) license in state worked.
Requires a proficiency level typically attained with 2 years acute-care, inpatient hospital clinical experience. Must have the ability to work independently, possess demonstrated critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective written and verbal communication skills and time management skills. Must also demonstrate the ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team format with a strong working knowledge of healthcare operations. Requires proficiency with software applications related to general business and personnel management such as MS Office applications, timekeeping, and SharePoint. This role may require occasional travel to support Enterprise initiatives for providers, stakeholders or CDI staff.
Requires familiarity with AHIMA Guidelines for Compliant Query Practices and the ACDIS Code of
Ethics. Requires functional knowledge on the use of computer assisted coding software. Requires strong working knowledge of clinical documentation methodologies as typically obtained through a minimum of 3 years relevant experience, including solid understanding of DRG methodologies, coding rules, regulations, and guidelines; identification of documentation improvement opportunities; and clarification guidelines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) preferred within 12 months of starting position.
Certified Documentation Integrity Practitioner (CDIP), Certified Coding (CCS) Specialist, or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
