Description of Job
This position reports to the PR/Communications Manager and collaborates with staff to develop engaging media content for public relations and communications. The Media Production Specialist creates professional media assets for parents, service providers, and stakeholders of children/students who are Deaf/Hard-ofHearing and/or Blind/Visually Impaired. This role requires advanced proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and the ability to translate video content for ASL audiences, ensuring accurate linguistic and cultural representation.
Key Responsibilities- Media Production
Plan, script, record, edit, narrate, and produce multimedia content for families, staff, and the community.
Use state-of-the-art technology and stay current with trends in software, tools, and resources for media production, including graphic design, video, and photography.
Capture professional photography reflects strong storytelling, lighting, and composition to highlight CSDB's students, staff, and events.
Provide on-camera ASL translation using native language ASL presenters to ensure cultural and linguistic authenticity.
Adapt English content for Deaf audiences, ensuring WCAG 2.1 AA compliance with captions, alt text, interpreting, and other accessibility features. - Operate professional-level production equipment for video, photography, and live streaming.
Collaborate with staff and teams to develop, implement, and evaluate media projects for multiple platforms, including social media, the website, and outreach channels.
Meet project deadlines while working a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and Saturdays.
Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain expertise in technology, storytelling, and accessibility.
Perform other duties as assigned.
ASL / Deaf Culture Proficiency
Minimum Advanced ASL skill level as demonstrated through an appropriate assessment tool and according to the school policy/procedures withing 2 years of hire.
Demonstrated understanding of Deaf culture, values, and linguistic accessibility.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communication, Educational/Media/Information Technology, or closely related field from an accredited institution.
Five (5) years of professional experience in media production, including use of current technology.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Animate, Media Encoder).
Ability to travel throughout Colorado.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in an educational setting with children and staff.
Familiarity with accessibility standards for Deaf and Blind communities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Expertise in video production, graphic design, photography, and live streaming.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to align creative content with enrollment and recruitment goals.
Ability to create bilingual/bimodal content (ASL/English) and adapt for multilingual families.
Knowledge of accessibility tools and practices for Deaf, Blind, and low-vision audiences.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse audiences and teams.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule to meet production deadlines.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
Work performed in a school office/studio environment.
Light to medium physical activity, including occasional lifting up to 50 lbs., standing/walking, climbing stairs, bending, and reaching.
Frequent use of computers, cameras, and other audiovisual equipment.

This position is assigned to work with staff/students who are Deaf / hard-of-hearing and require proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the ADVANCED skill level or above, as demonstrated by an appropriate assessment tool and according to school policy/procedures. Please check one box below to describe / indicate your current level of ASL proficiency.
SUPERIOR (4+) - Able to have a fully shared conversation, with in-depth elaboration for both social and work topics.
ADVANCED (3+) - Able to have a generally shared conversation with good, spontaneous elaboration for both social and work topics.
INTERMEDIATE (2+) - Able to discuss with some confidence routine social and work topics within a conversational format with some elaboration;
SURVIVAL (1+) - Able to discuss basic social and work topics with responses generally 1-3 sentences in length.
