Job Title: Payroll AccountantJob Description

The primary role of the Payroll Accountant is to process and post monthly payroll for approximately 50 companies, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable regulations. The candidate should be proficient in 10-key data entry with a high level of speed and accuracy, particularly in payroll processing environments.

Responsibilities

Process and post monthly payroll for approximately 50 companies, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Perform daily employer contribution postings and track accounts receivable.

Set up new employer accounts and update member records to determine benefit eligibility.

Maintain and process accounts receivable (A/R) and accounts payable (A/P) using QuickBooks.

Prepare and analyze general ledger transactions to ensure financial accuracy.

Generate financial reports and assist with monthly and year-end close processes.

Support preparation for the annual audit, including documentation and reconciliations.

Determine member benefit eligibility based on updated records and contribution data.

Essential Skills

Proficiency in payroll processing and payroll accounting.

Experience in 10-key data entry with speed and accuracy.

Knowledge in Excel for formatting, copying, pasting, and organizing text in columns.

Experience with general ledger, reconciliation, month-end processes, and journal entries.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Associate's degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field preferred.

2+ years of relevant work experience in payroll processing or payroll accounting.

Experience in employee benefits, union, and/or non-profit environments preferred.

Work Environment

This position requires working in the office 5 days a week, starting at either 7am or 8am, with an 8.5-hour workday including a 30-minute lunch break. The start time can be chosen based on personal preference but must remain consistent each day. The Payroll Accountant will work within a team of three other staff accountants and one eligibility specialist, under the management of the Accounting Manager.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lanham, Maryland.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $33.65/hr.
