Description of Job
Job Summary:
This is a Materials Handler position that supports both Mail Services and Central Receiving with additional responsibilities, including mail services systems, and equipment maintenance. Position is also a working position in package receiving, tracking and delivery. Please note that this position, along with positions 155 and 397, will rotate monthly between Mail Services and Central Receiving. This rotation ensures that each employee remains fully knowledgeable and cross-trained in all areas within the Distribution Services department.
Essential Job Functions: Delivery of Goods & Receiving of Goods:
Deliver items received to the addressee on campus within scheduled route time. Pre-determine how delivery will be made as to size of item and confinement of area to be delivered to as items can weigh up to 2000 pounds, or more, requiring the use of carts, forklift, pallet jacks, or by hand.
Scan packages and receive signatures for all items delivered to the end user. Items will be delivered intact, without unpacking said item, unless a waiver form has been pre-signed by the addressee.
Receive, identify, log and stage for delivery of all incoming items, including priority, next day air and airmail items.
Unload items from trucks and trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, or by hand. Scan or key in package data to the arrival system (WTS), which is used to track shipments received by the unit.
Heavy Equipment Operation, Vehicle Maintenance & Driver Safety:
Company vehicles are safely operated on roads and on campus. Must adhere to all state laws and Auraria Campus procedures.
Report any repairs or maintenance required for Auraria Campus vehicles.
Operate heavy equipment for the offloading, storage and delivery of large and oversized shipments.
U.S.P.S. & Intercampus Sortation:
Sort U.S. mail, packages, and intercampus mail for the four (4) separate institutions on campus.
Mail Receive & Delivery:
At the start of the shift, position will pick up mail from the GMF on 53rd, and at the end of the shift, they will deliver outgoing/processed mail to the downtown GMF.
Bundle mail by route and location, deliver mail (postal or intercampus) to assigned areas within the allotted time.
Pick up any outgoing mail or packages from customer(s). Answer any questions from customers while out on route.
Adjust or make changes to any routes according to volume and staff shortages to ensure that all mail is picked up and delivered daily.
Customer Service & Other Duties as Assigned:
Assist customers with questions, deliveries, mail, while out on campus.
Return all messages/voicemails left for Distribution Services.
Cleaning, and sweeping of mailroom and warehouse area.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or lead worker.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimum Qualifications:
One (1) year of experience which includes mail, package and equipment delivery, receiving or storing, including large and heavy items requiring use of carts, pallet jacks and other loading dock equipment.
Must possess a valid unrestricted Colorado driver's license at the time of application.
Conditions of Employment:
Must maintain a valid and unencumbered Colorado driver's license.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 lbs.
Must maintain their ability to stand for long periods of time as well as kneel, stoop, crouch, reach and grab in the performance of job-related duties.
Must be willing and able to physically maneuver and manipulate various hand tools (hand trucks, snips and banding tools) used in the performance of job-related duties.
They must also maintain their ability to independently travel in the performance of job-related duties.
Must be willing and able to perform work duties while exposed to extremes in weather elements (i.e. snow in the winter, heat in the summer).
Willingness to adhere to all safety guidance material to include those regulating the handling and storage as well as movement of toxic substances such as chemicals and other materials.
