As major pursuits such as the Next-Gen Single Aisle Commercial Aircraft, the US Department of Defense Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) initiative, and other opportunities associated with the Collins 'Big 7' increasingly become nearer, the Collins Aerospace Strategic Business Units (SBU) tasked with designing, developing, and delivering on these endeavors requires improved effectiveness and a transformative capability revolution to perform their tasks to stay competitive and meet the increasing demands of our Aerospace & Defense customers.
Engineering Enablement & Solutions is seeking a Chief Systems Engineer for the Collins Connected Engineering System, the comprehensive digital system leveraged by the 20,000+ engineers across Collins Aerospace. The Collins Engineering workforce is composed of 9 STEM families, and the Collins Connected Engineering System will enable all 9 STEM families to unlock their skills and strengths through holistic capability enablement solutions. The need to modernize and transform this system is real, but so is the need to maintain execution excellence with the current configuration. The Chief Systems Engineer is accountable for driving systems engineering practices and principles into the architecture, design, development, verification, validation, and management of all configurations of the Collins Connected Engineering System. The engineer who fills this role will be responsible for producing and reviewing the Connected Engineering System's Systems Engineering Artifacts, leveraging agile processes and an agile mindset for workflow management, and providing technical leadership to internal and external stakeholders.
**This is a hybrid role that requires proximity to a major Collins Aerospace site.
What YOU will do:
You will drive** modern systems engineering practices and principles into the development and management of the Collins Connected Engineering System through:
Development and ownership of the Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP)
Incorporation of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods into the lifecycle management of the Connected Engineering System
Incorporation of Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) Enterprise Architecture (EA) industry standards into the lifecycle management of the Collins Connected Engineering System
Accountability for Architecture Governance of the Collins Connected Engineering System
You will oversee the creation of model-based systems artifacts for the Collins Connected Engineering System, such as:
SysML and UAFML architecture and design artifacts
Stakeholder Requirements
Model-based Functional & Non-Functional System Level Requirements
System Engineering artifact traceability relationships
Verification & validation cases & procedures
System risks & opportunities
Formal and informal review artifacts
You will strategize the development priorities of the Collins Connected Engineering System, via:
Implementation of an Agile work management system for the Collins Connected Engineering System
Ownership of the Collins Connected Engineering System systems engineering artifact backlog
Intake multiple stakeholder viewpoints to deliver an optimal Collins Connected Engineering System aligned to all stakeholder needs
Prioritization of the Collins Connecting Engineering System backlogs, to enablethe development teams to develop the right solution at the right time, the right way
Participate in quarterly Program Increment Planning Events and the continually recurring Agile ceremonies
Bring a continuous improvement, growth mindset approach to drive iterative improvements to our deliverables and to our execution approaches
You will lead Engineering Enablement & Solutions from a technical perspective by:
Championing industry standards & best practices of systems engineering across the EES directorate
Channeling soft skills to cultivate a technical, systems-mindset culture shift across the EES organization
Communicating and collaborating with key executive stakeholders on strategic, architectural aspects of the Collins Connected Engineering System
MentoringEES employees regarding the Systems Engineering Discipline

Qualifications YOU Must Have:

Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience
Expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices and principles
SysML Fluency
Practical Knowledge in model-based architecture frameworks
Strong understanding of digital engineering implementations in software-centric system development in a stage gate development process
Qualifications We Prefer:
Experience delivering products/systems within highly regulated industries (e.g., aerospace, automotive, defense)
Experience designing & delivering capabilities (integrated processes, technology & training) to technical consumers
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

The salary range for this role is 147,000 USD - 295,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
