The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Virginia, located in beautiful Charlottesville, VA, seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a full-time appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Clinical scope is focused on ambulatory women's care including obstetrics and benign gynecology services. This role is an expansion of our current team of 7 APPs and 8 Certified Nurse Midwives.
We are looking for a flexible, energetic, highly motivated professional to help us support the Advanced Practitioner team's top of license scope of services.
Principal responsibilities include in-scope ambulatory obstetrical and well-women gynecological healthcare in various outpatient locations in the Charlottesville area as well as outreach sites in the UVA Health footprint.
Additional responsibilities will include educating residents and medical students, supporting nurse practitioner student clinical rotations, engagement in developing women's ambulatory service programs; community outreach; and participating in departmental activities, including academic meetings and research.
Applicants with previous experience in supporting women's services, especially in an academic medical center are strongly encouraged to apply, but new graduates and those without experience at an academic medical center will be considered as well.

Summary of duties
Primary Clinical
Works in conjunction with the medical director, administrative management, nursing and other interprofessional team members to facilitate patient care and management throughout the health care system.
Performs comprehensive history and physical assessment
Documents findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings
Orders and interprets the appropriate diagnostic labs and tests
Forms medical diagnoses based on history, assessment and diagnostic findings
Develops, implements and evaluates treatment plans
Prescribes and recommends pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions
Initiates appropriate specialty consultations referrals when requisite
Recognizes acute/emergent situations requiring immediate responsiveness and initiates life-saving interventions, alerting the interdisciplinary team members for assistance
Recognizes and incorporates age-specific requirements, communicates plan of care with patients and families
Advocates for patients and family members in educational needs, treatment options, participation in care and ethical issues and patient rights with recognition and consideration of the diverse needs of the individual/family
Initiates and evaluates clinical pathways and protocols
Perform in scope obstetrical and gynecological care including but not limited to routine annual visits with preventive health testing and follow up of results (pap, hpv, STD testing,), routine follow-up, non-emergent complaints IUD insertion/removal, colposcopies
Skills for colposcopy, IUD insertion and removal, vulvar biopsies, and endometrial biopsies will be acquired over time if applicant is not currently certified for services.
Educational:
Precepts APP students and provides mentoring for other APP's as supported by the Department of OBGYN
Works with assigned Medical Students to meet training goals as well as providing feedback to Medical Students via EPA mechanism

Position Compensation Range: $93,142.40 - $149,032.00 Annual
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Master's Degree as an Advance Practice Provider - Nurse Practitioner or as an Advance Practice Provider - Physician Assistant
Experience: One to two years minimum experience as an Advanced Practice Provider Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant preferred.
Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of the UVA Medical Center, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and the appropriate certifying bodies. Must be enrolled with all payers through Delegated Credentialing and can participate in Medicaid and Medicare for billing. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling/bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
