Job Description
The Consumer and Business Banking Chief Risk Officer (CRO) is the senior most operating officer for risk and risk-related governance within both our Consumer and Business Banking Product organization as well as our Branch and Small Business organization and reports directly to the head of Consumer and Business Banking Products, with dual reporting to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) of U.S. Bank. The BL CRO is responsible for operating a Business Line or Support Function risk management program that supports compliance with the Company's Risk Management Framework and Risk Appetite requirements. Business Line CROs also serve as a key liaison to the Second and Third Line of Defense functions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The CBB CRO is responsible for overseeing and directing activities to monitor ongoing compliance with our Risk Management Framework and Risk Appetite requirements. This includes involvement in strategic planning, business model decisions and other key business decision-making.?This leader drives the identification of internal and external events as well as potential scenarios that could adversely impact the U.S. Bank and the CBB businesses. Additionally, this role is responsible to lead key risk program accountabilities across Consumer and Small Business Products and Branch and Small Business Banking: issue management, audit and exam management, assurance programs, resiliency, regulatory change management, model risk management, data risk governance, compliance risk management, risk profile and control design as well as SOX, FRRC and SOCR.
The CBB CRO is responsible for the identification and escalation of material risks and control deficiencies to the appropriate parties, including significant instances where risks are not aligned with our Risk Appetite as well as significant instances of non-compliance with policy requirements. Other responsibilities include ensuring that appropriate actions are taken to evaluate root cause for adverse events, and to drive corrective actions to strengthen risk management practices or reduce risk across the business units.?They also ensure adherence to programs that are established to attract, develop, and retain the talent and staffing levels necessary to support U.S. Bank's Risk Management Framework and Risk Appetite.?
The CBB CRO is a voting member of the Executive Risk Committee and several senior operating committees and subcommittees.?They are a key member of both the Consumer and Small Business Products and Branch and Small Business Banking leadership teams and ensure appropriate risk governance and reporting within the teams. They interact regularly with executive leadership across the bank and banking regulators and maintain a close partnership with Fraud strategy to ensure optimization of fraud losses while also delivering distinctive client experience.
PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
Strong understanding of applicable laws, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends that impact their assigned line of business
Job scope and complexity of assigned business is at the departmental or divisional level
Interact regularly with senior and executive leadership and possess advanced relationship and negotiation skills
Provide comprehensive weekly updates to Managing Committee Members
Advanced skill in handling challenging situations
Strong understanding of the business line's operations, products/services, systems, and associated risks/controls
May be responsible for managing reporting, testing/monitoring, and exception/resolution activities
Regular exposure to regulatory and other agencies
Manage a team of Risk Professionals, and have responsibility for staffing, performance management, prioritizing, guidance and training
Mechanically proficient; particularly in Microsoft Office applications
Advanced degree or equivalent, applicable certifications
At least fifteen years applicable experience
Expert understanding of applicable laws, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends that impact Operations
Highly skilled relationship and negotiation skills as well as strong ability to manage through crisis situations
Exceptionally strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, planning and implementation skills

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $274,295.00 - $322,700.00
