Minitex's suite of services promote effective delivery of needed information, partnerships, and sharing library resources including collections and electronic resources, bibliographic records, and reference services. Minitex pursues technological innovations to provide new opportunities for delivery of services. A program of the Office of Higher Education, Minitex operates as a division of the University Libraries, based at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus. Delivery is a service area in which Minitex staff sort and process returnable and nonreturnable interlibrary loan materials to facilitate resource sharing throughout the state. Position Overview: This position is in the Delivery Area. The delivery specialist assists in maintaining an orderly flow of library materials into and out of the Minitex office. This includes the preparation and sorting of these materials for shipping and receiving them via delivery couriers and shipping vendors including USPS, UPS, etc. Key Responsibilities/Duties and Percentage of time (must equal 100%): Preparation and shipping of library materials. 45% Distribute Minitex library materials to proper locations in the delivery area. Package and label library materials so that they can arrive at their correct destinations in good condition. Operates shipping software and USPS postage machines. Communicate with couriers and carriers as needed to assure timely pickup of materials. Stock mail area with mail supplies and shipping materials. Maintain inventory of office supplies in the bulk storage area. Receiving and processing of library materials. 45% Sort and transport materials ensuring that they are safely and accurately delivered to the Resource Sharing Unit, Wilson ILL Borrowing, and the U of M library. Using the Minitex delivery van, safely transport materials to and from local libraries, including Wilson Library, Magrath Library, and Hennepin County Central Branch Public Library. Deliver Minitex tubs to local area participants as directed. Communicate with couriers as needed to assure prompt delivery of materials. Open materials ensure that they are accurately delivered in good condition. Assist delivery drivers and couriers on the MLAC loading dock. Maintain statistics which may include Direct Delivery daily and monthly totals and Shipping (UPS and USPS.) Enhance the overall effectiveness of the Delivery unit and Minitex services. 10% Participate actively and positively in meetings that involve the Resource Sharing and Delivery staff and/or the entire Minitex staff. Establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers in Delivery, Resource Sharing, Minitex staff, University Library staff and Minitex participants. Attend workshops and training as appropriate, share information learned with other Minitex staff using appropriate communication methods. Work closely with supervisor and co-workers in Delivery to ensure a high level of efficiency and quality of processes. Provide assistance when appropriate to other staff in Delivery and Resource Sharing. Work with various groups and task teams that focus on office wide or organizational concerns, as appropriate. Coordinate with the building manager for emergency procedure processes. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required High school graduate or GED and two years of related office and administrative experience. Training/education may be substituted for some of the years of experience.. Ability to read and follow instructions and properly complete paperwork. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently. Strong organizational skills to manage a high volume of materials and ensure they are sorted correctly. Attention to detail to prevent mis-sorts and mis-deliveries, which can cause significant delays. Must have a valid driver's license. Physical Requirements Ability to stand up for three hours at a time, multiple times per day. Ability to regularly move up to 50 pounds (from floor to shoulder height) and transport heavy materials on a flatbed pushcart. Position requires extensive bending, reaching and stooping. Preferred Qualifications Experience in preparing materials for shipment via US Mail, United Parcel Service, or regional courier services. Experience using filing or coding systems to sort materials. Experience using mailing equipment such as scales and postage machines.
