Summary This position is located at the Rosebud Service Unit in Rosebud, South Dakota. The purpose of this position is to interpret, analyze, and assign diagnostic and procedural codes. Ensures that the final diagnosis accurately reflects the care and treatment rendered. Makes the final determination that medico-legal requirements of the record is complete. Identifies inconsistencies, discrepancies and/or trends within the medical record. Assigns and sequences a variety of codes including but not limited to ICD/CPT/HCPCS codes based on the medical records analysis. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-5: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level AND/OR four years above high school. GS-6: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 grade level. GS-7: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-6 grade level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following @type of work and/or tasks: Examples of Specialized Experience GS-5: Preparing new charts and following well-established medical records procedures. GS-6: Knowledge of coding terminology, abstracting data from a medical record, performing chart analysis, and following well-established medical record procedures. GS-7: Performing technical and specialized functions for an outpatient and inpatient medical record; performing quality assurance of medical records; and coding diagnostic and procedural information. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
