For Water Street Mission to fulfill its mission and purpose, it is critical for all staff to participate in the development and maintenance of a healthy Christian Community. Job Summary: Social Workers/Case Managers supports guests staying at Water Street Mission by facilitating all aspects of guest case management, from intake through shelter and/or the Residential program. Social Workers/Case Managers work with guests from a strengths-based, person-centered, and trauma-informed perspective. Social Workers/Case Managers foster positive partnerships and collaboration with other WSM departments, as well as with external community resources providers, to maximize the time that guests have at WSM to contribute to their journey of sustainable restoration.
In compliance with the PA Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors Act of 1987, amended in 2008 by PA Public Law 929, No. 68, only a person who holds a current license under the Act or who has received a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree from an accredited school or program of social work or social welfare may use the title "Social Worker." Staff with relevant qualifications for this position but without social work credentials will be titled "Case Manager." This distinction is in title only and does not constitute a separate job description or role function.

All Water Street Mission staff must be:

Coordinate all functions of guest case management so that who we serve and how we serve is a true expression of our purpose, mission, and values.
Provide case management to assigned Family Emergency Shelter, Providence Shelter, and Residential program guests on caseload, meeting with guests according to frequency designated by program.
Complete guest intakes, shelter contracts, assessments, and monthly Residential guest Action Plans.
Work with guests to identify their strengths-based, person-centered goals and make appropriate referrals to community service providers.
In partnership with the Directors of Social Services and Behavioral Health Services and others as necessary, screen incoming referrals from behavioral health or substance abuse centers for intake eligibility, making recommendations for support plans as needed.
Work positively and collaboratively with all staff to ensure coordinated services for guests.
Attend and proactively contribute to all assigned internal and external meetings and trainings, including but not limited to Social Services team meetings, multidisciplinary and internal support team meetings, external community services provider meetings, etc.
Maintain thorough and up-to-date knowledge of all WSM philosophies, policies, and procedures.
Maintain or develop expertise in specific areas of social services, as assigned by Director.
Maintain accurate and timely guest information and records.
Assist with training and acclimating new Social Services department staff, as directed.
Assist designated staff with responding to incidents or crises on campus, if requested.
Provide coverage for Access Center desk as needed.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Role Specific Responsibilities
Represent WSM at community meetings and events, as requested.
Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree in social work or related human services field required; master's degree preferred. Minimum of 4 years in human services, with preference given to candidates with demonstrated experience in the areas of homelessness, behavioral health, substance abuse, or trauma-informed care. Strong organizational and time management skills are required. Competency in Microsoft Office products and ability to use a case management software system is essential. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential. A valid PA driver's license is required. Bilingual (English-Spanish) strongly preferred.
