Department Summary
The Division of Student Life supports the university's academic mission and strategic plan through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Student Life includes four major portfolios, the Office of the Dean of Students, Experiential Learning & Engagement, Health & Wellbeing, and Division Administration. Key programs and departments within the division include but are not limited to University Health Services, Erb Memorial Union, Physical Education & Recreation, Parent and Family Programs, Major Student Events (Commencement, Homecoming, University Day), Fraternity and Sorority Life, Counseling, Health Promotion, Multicultural and Identity Based Support Services, Student Government Engagement & Success, Student Conduct and Community Standards, and Support for Students in Crisis and Students of Concern.
The Division of Student Life Financial Shared Services Team provides financial support to the departments within the Division of Student Life. This support includes budget creation and oversight, AR/AP processing, cash management, and financial reporting among other duties. The shared services team is a group of various financial positions and classifications that provide service across departmental lines with some duties aligning more specifically with unique departmental needs. All shared service team members are familiar with best practices and use their skills and expertise to provide timely, accurate, and thorough financial support.
Position Summary
This position is in the Student Life Shared Service Center which is made up of financial and human resource teams. The shared service center handles financial and HR-related matters for client departments within the UO. One of those clients is the Associated Student Body of the University of Oregon (ASUO). This position will primarily serve the needs of the ASUO and its unique business model which is primarily based upon the Incidental Fee (I-fee) budget passed by the leaders of the ASUO.
This position will specifically be responsible for the interpretation and adherence to rules, policies, procedures, and deadlines as they relate to financial transactions at the UO. In addition, the position will provide guidance, analysis, and transactional assistance (including but not limited to high volume AR/AP processing, stipend processing, contract creation and other administrative tasks), oftentimes requiring detailed explanations to help navigate and communicate ASUO/i-fee policies to various audiences. The position will also assist the shared service center with additional financial tasks as determined by the needs of the other shared service center clients.
This position will report to the Assistant Director of Financial Services, and is eligible for a hybrid on-campus and remote work schedule.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree with CPA or PA certificate; OR
Bachelor's degree with 30 quarter (20 semester) hours of college-level Accounting, OR
30 quarter (20 semester) hours of Accounting courses and three years of Accounting experience.*
Accounting experience must include at least 3 of the following:
Preparing transactions to be recorded in records of original entry;
Preparing journal entries, posting from journals to general ledger, or preparing original general ledger entries;
Summarizing data from a ledger to a trial balance;
Closing accounts at the end of an accounting period;
Applying PC spreadsheet, database, and word processing software;
Processing data using a computer.
Professional Competencies
Effective communication skills.
Experience with/ability to prepare spreadsheets and use report-writing tools.
Demonstrated accounting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to effectively work and communicate with individuals from different cultural backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education.
Experience with Banner Finance products.
Experience with Cognos.
Experience working with a student population.
