Job Title: Medical Secretary - Pediatric Hematology

Location: New Haven, CT (On-site)

Employment Type: Full-Time, 6-Month Contract (Potential for Extension)

Overview:

A respected pediatric specialty clinic in New Haven is seeking a highly organized and customer-focused Medical Secretary to support its Hematology department. This role involves high-volume phone work and requires strong Epic proficiency. Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, call center-like environment while supporting multiple providers.

Primary Duties and Accountabilities:

Handle heavy phone volume with professionalism and excellent phone etiquette

Schedule patient appointments and manage provider calendars using Epic

Respond to Epic In Basket messages and manage Epic Work Queues efficiently

Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in the EMR system

Assist with insurance verification, referrals, and prior authorizations

Communicate effectively with clinical teams to ensure coordinated care

Provide compassionate support to patients and families navigating complex care

Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years of experience in a medical office or hospital setting

Proficient experience with Epic is required (including In Basket, Work Queues, scheduling, and documentation)

Strong customer service and phone communication skills

Ability to multitask and remain composed in a high-volume, fast-paced environment

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training in medical administration is a plus

Schedule & Compensation:

Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM

Competitive hourly rate based on experience

Initial 6-month contract with potential for extension

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
