Medical Records Specialist-Correctional Medicine 80hrs Biweekly Eves

Biweekly Hours: 80.00

Shift: Monday-Friday, 3p-11:30p

Summary:

Performs a variety of clerical duties in support of the Correctional Health Care team. Performs patient admission, registration, release of medical information, and discharge functions. Processes and releases confidential requests for medical record information for the provision of Health Care. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Qualifications:

Required: Associates Degree in a related field or 3 years of experience in health information management, comparable physician office, clinic or hospital business office, or healthcare customer service/office setting. Typing 35 wpm. Medical terminology training or experience. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology. Strong familiarity of medical record documents. Familiarity with HIPAA privacy laws and Joint Commission Record of Care standards. Proficiency with computers and commonly used software applications, including Microsoft Office, internet, electronic health record. Competent use of office equipment such as multifunctional devices, document scanners, computer workstations and telephones. Strong customer relations and communication skills. Demonstrated initiative and independent problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced office environment to meet deadlines and service requirements. Attention to detail, ability to follow directions, prioritize responsibilities, and work with minimal supervision in a team-oriented atmosphere. Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred: Associates degree from an AHIMA accredited health information technology program with an active RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) credential or related college degree. Experience with performing release of medical record information functions.

Physical Requirements: May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required. May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion. Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications. Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
