Description

We are seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our Payroll Department. In this role, you will be responsible for managing weekly Union payroll processing, preparing payroll tax forms, handling audits, reconciling payroll-related accounts, and performing a variety of administrative and reporting tasks. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively under pressure in a high-volume environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Union Payroll Management: Process weekly Union payroll accurately and in compliance with regulations.

Tax Compliance and Reporting: Prepare federal and state payroll tax forms and fuel tax returns.

Audits: Lead payroll audits, including Union, Workers' Compensation, and OCIP audits.

Account Reconciliation: Reconcile general ledger accounts related to payroll.

Record Maintenance: Manage personnel and equipment records across various programs.

Retirement Reporting: Prepare monthly retirement reports for deposit.

Salary and Bonus Management: Maintain and update salary and bonus tracking worksheets.

Cross-Training: Provide back-up support for other payroll staff as needed.

Requirements

Requirements:

Education: Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Payroll Knowledge: Familiarity with payroll processes, garnishments, and benefits distribution.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Organizational Skills: Excellent time management and attention to detail, with the ability to meet strict deadlines in a high-volume environment.

Independence: Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.

Industry: Construction experience is required.
