Responsibilities If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing substantive legal support to the Western District of Pennsylvania. Typical work assignments include: - Serving as a technician in the area of financial litigation and is responsible for directly and independently supporting Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) by providing a wide variety of technical assistance services. - Performs a wide range of technical support duties involving the processing of cases within the financial litigation function. - Using a variety of automated systems to conduct research, initiate documents for debt collection actions and track debtor accounts. - Using common online resources, obtains and analyzes routine financial information on debtors to determine their present and future potential ability to pay. - Communicates with debtors to present options for debt payments, answer questions, explain pertinent procedures, clarify information, and work cases to resolution. - Prepares payment plans which involve reviewing financial asset information the debtor has submitted. - Performs periodic internal control audits of financial litigation and debt collection case records to ensure accuracy of program operations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level. Specialized experience is defined as communicating with debtors on payment plans, answering questions, explaining procedures regarding financial litigation; processing debt collection for criminal and civil debts; drafting, preparing letters, forms and reports to initiate the collection of debts. GS-8: To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as performing internal control audits of financial litigation and debt collection; investigating complicated financial assets and transactions and providing analyses of information from debtors; interpreting and enforcing judgments in criminal cases pertaining to financial litigation to include criminal fines, assessments, interests, penalties, restitution, criminal forfeitures, bond forfeitures and court costs; participating in decisions concerning post judgment remedies such as garnishments and judgments debtor examinations.
