Summary This position is part of the Defense Media Activity. The incumbent serves as technical director for both studio and remote location television productions. Responsibilities As a AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTION SPECIALIST at the GS-1071-11 some of your typical work assignments may include: Serves as technical director, floor manager, primary videographer, audio technician, lighting technician, and director for both broadcast studios and live locations for television productions. Operates with expertise audio/video equipment and editing software including recorders, switchers, broadcast routers, character generators, audio mixers, microphones, and lighting equipment to produce preliminary and final video products. Operates primary media acquisition equipment during a variety of live events including interviews, news conferences, ceremonies, and B-roll recording. Provides expert advice to producers, directors, and internal customers on aesthetic looks and environmental concerns to enhance production value and communicate the intended outcome. Serves as audio/visual custodian. Maintains inventory of equipment and utilizes asset management software and systems to maintain property control over inventory IAW industry, DoD policy, and DMA standards. Conducts market research and prepares procurement packages for the Production Services Division for television and audio-visual services and equipment. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of industry standards, distribution practices, and related TV broadcast technologies. Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- photography, radio or television production, motion picture production, or other fields related to the position. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. OR B. Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience in the actual @type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes work directly connected with the production aspects of the field(s) of the position to be filled You may qualify at the GS-11, if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service: Operating a variety of audio and visual production equipment, utilizing emerging trends in technology to execute complex, multi-faceted live and recorded media productions. This includes but is not limited to; cameras, microphones, switchers, routers, audio boards, computer graphics systems and camera sharing systems. Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks, adheres to strict deadlines under pressure, manage schedules, assume responsibility of inventories, conduct training, and chair necessary meetings to ensure consistent communication of desired outcome and expectations between the client, the crew, the section and/or leadership. OR B. Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR C. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
