This position is an onsite/in the field position.
This position will supervise the Marshall Mechanic Shop under the administrative direction of the Transportation Operations Supervisor 3 and manage equipment maintenance and repairs. This position will create preventative maintenance work plan, manage and schedule repairs. This position will support preventive maintenance philosophies of MnDOT and District 8 fleet equipment. This position will facilitate outsourced repairs as required and ensure documentation is completed. This position will schedule and coordinate equipment repairs and maintenance with customers and vendors to minimize downtime. This position will provide input to the TOS 3 on equipment conditions for disposal and replacement decisions.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
One year of supervisory experience (e.g., TOS 1) or equivalent experience that included hiring, training and supervision of mechanics in a heavy equipment repair facility;
OR
Three years of experience providing heavy equipment maintenance & repair (e.g., HEM, HEFM) that included providing technical training and direction to staff (e.g., heavy, medium or light duty electronics; hydraulics; diesel emissions; spreader controls and systems; engines, transmissions or brakes; etc.).
Education:
Graduation from a two-year HEM training program may substitute for one year of the three years of HEM or HEFM experience.
License/Certification:
Valid Class B CDL with no air brake restriction upon hire. Must be able to obtain Class A CDL and tanker endorsement within six months of hire.
Must obtain a MN Commercial Vehicle Inspector Certification/License during the probationary period.
The incumbent in this position will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Individuals not currently in the random testing pool must pass a preplacement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP), amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetylmorphine (6-AM).
The incumbent must also be registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced computer skills, including TAMS, Excel for spreadsheets and other window-based operating system programs.
Expert knowledge and ability to operate, inspect, maintain, and repair equipment.
Physical Requirements
General Office:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use wrists, hands, and fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Mechanic/Shop:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be required to work in a set area with tool carts, sinks, hoists and supplies easily accessible (i.e. the mechanics shop). The employee may be required to use gross and fine dexterity in a variety of positions including reaching outward and overhead, bending, working with outstretched arms and/or while lying on the back (i.e. on a creeper), climbing up onto a large vehicle, working from heights and bending over.
Infrequently, the employee works with power tools, machinery/instruments and equipment, and hand tools requiring the frequent lifting and/or carrying/holding of supplies and parts up to 50 pounds and rarely up to 100 pounds. Loads over 110 pounds to lift open the hood of a vehicle or 200 pounds to move a transmission or tire are done rarely but with the aid of a hoist and fellow workers. Fine dexterity and eye coordination of the wrists, hands and fingers to handle, feel, scrape, pound or use force is constant up to 25 pounds. Working conditions include vision, noise, vibrations, respiratory and chemical hazards.
