Nationally Known, Non-Profit Law Organization Seeks Administrative Assistant to Support Mission to Help People Access Medicare and Health Care
The Center for Medicare Advocacy (CMA) seeks an Administrative Assistant with a commitment to health equity and social justice. CMA is a private, non-profit, public interest law organization that works to advance access to comprehensive Medicare, quality health care, and health equity for older people and people with disabilities. CMA focuses on the needs of people with long-term and chronic conditions. The organizations work includes individual advocacy, administrative appeals, education, legislative and regulatory analysis, policy initiatives, and litigation of importance to Medicare beneficiaries nationwide. Headquartered in Mansfield, Connecticut, the Center also has attorneys in CA, DC, MA, MD, and WI. This position is based in our Connecticut office, with some remote work possible.
The Administrative Assistant provides support for CMAs Co-Directors, Leadership Team, Development Office, and Marketing and Communications Team. This position also assists with CMAs State of CT Aging and Disability Services (ADS) project, the State of CT Third Party Liability (TPL) project, and the Community Education and Outreach Project (COEP). The Administrative Assistant also provides Information and Referral back-up and helps with logistics, outreach, education, social media, website, publications, and events. Proficiency in Spanish is desired but not required.
The successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to work independently and in teams, possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication, writing, research, and computer skills - especially in MS Word and Excel -; collaborative work ethic; the ability to problem-solve independently and as part of a team; and a passion for social justice.
CMAs CT office is 15 minutes from the University of Connecticut, 40 minutes from Hartford, 1 hours from Boston, and 2 hours from New York City. Some remote work options are possible.
Depending on experience and qualifications, the starting salary range is $50,000 - $60,000. Excellent benefits package.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.
Provide assistance to CMAs Co-Directors
Assist with logistics for Board of Directors
Scheduling meetings and other communications.
Helping to arrange travel and logistics for Annual (in-person) Board Meeting.
Assist with meetings and travel arrangements
Scheduling and logistics for internal and external meetings and events.
Helping to arrange travel for CMA staff, board and others as needed.
Assist with monitoring and tracking CMA outcomes and metrics.
Other assistance as needed.
2.
Provide assistance for CMAs Marketing, Communication, and Development staff, including:
Assist Marketing and Communications Team with social media and website updates.
Work with the Development Office on processing donations and acknowledgement letters; foundation and donor research; data maintenance, analysis, and reporting; and other matters as needed.
Assist with logistics for internal and external events, including CMAs Annual National Voices of Medicare Summit.
Assist with logistics for grant-funded projects in CT as needed.
3.
Provide assistance for CMAs State of CT Aging and Disability Services (ADS) project, including:
Assist with community outreach, education, and materials (internal and external).
Assist in answering calls for assistance, provide information and referral and/or transfer to appropriate advocate.
Assist in responding to emails, provide information and referral and/or transfer to appropriate advocate.
Assist attorneys, advocates, and other staff as needed.
4.
Provide back-up assistance for CMAs State of CT Third Party Liability (TPL) project as needed.
5.
Assist the litigation team with organization of case files, drafting table of contents/table of authorities for briefs,and with federal court filings and related matters.
6.
Provide further assistance, as needed, including:
Assist with cite checking and other tasks for the Medicare Handbook annual updates.
Assist with posting of Center mail.
Help arrange for translation services for non-English speaking contacts.
Provide quality assurance/proofreading functions.
Serve as knowledge/skills expert in MS Word and Excel.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist with various organizational tasks as needed.
Assist, as necessary, in the Centers delivery of excellent services and in growing its reputation as a leader in advancing access to Medicare, quality health care, and defending the rights of all older people and people with disabilities.
Assist in assuring that the entirety of the Center, and the CT Office in particular, runs smoothly and effectively.
Other responsibilities, as necessary.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1.Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and administrative experience will be considered.
Minimum of 3-5 years experience in an executive-level administrative role, preferably in a nonprofit or legal setting.
