POSITION OVERVIEW
Services in support of U.S. Air Force (AF) voluntary off-duty education program as Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Advisor to include providing academic advisement, information, and guidance on CCAF degree coursework/requirements, Air Force Tuition Assistance, as well as other academic degree requirements and certifications. Duties include serving as liaison for CCAF graduation ceremonies, managing initial/follow-up counseling sessions, updating education records in the Air Force Automated Education Management System (AFAEMS), approving Tuition Assistance, and education goals, and conducting briefings/seminars on CCAF. Duties further include preparation of documents within the services provided and maintaining office areas and student areas.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advises active-duty AF personnel on all programs available through voluntary off-duty education, the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF), Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES), AF Institute of Advanced Distributive Learning (AFIADL), commissioning programs and other educational support programs as required by the Education and Training Section Chief (ETS Chief). Keeps the ETS Chief current on all program and catalog changes and advises affected students promptly.
Advises AF personnel on Professional Military Education (PME) programs to include Noncommissioned Officer Academy (NCOA), Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy (SNCOA), Squadron Officer School (SOS), Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Air Command and Staff College (ACSC), Air War College (AWC), and programs available for enlisted personnel and officers by correspondence, in residence or in seminar format and assists them in registering for appropriate programs.
Provides information and required forms to prospective applicants of specialized AF programs to include: Air Force Language Enabled Airman Program (AF LEAP), Leaders Encouraging Airman Development (LEAD), Scholarships for Outstanding Airmen to Reserve Officer Training Program (ROTC) (SOAR), Airman Scholarship Commissioning Program (ASCP), and Officer Training School (OTS). Performs preliminary check for accuracy and completion of application package. Refers applicants to Education Specialist for final check of package prior to submission.
Provides information regarding Air Force Tuition Assistance (TA), Veterans Administration (VA) education benefits, federal financial assistance programs, local scholarships, and Air Force Aid Society grants to all eligible personnel. Assists students with completion of all applicable forms/applications. Processes AF TA forms via the Air Force Automated Education Management System (AFAEMS) software program.
Refers students to the appropriate academic institution representative for registration and enrollment in courses or programs that pertain to their education goals.
Must be thoroughly familiar with the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Services (DANTES) test program and advises students of DANTES Standardized Subject Tests (DSST) and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests that are applicable to their programs of study. Administers and interprets pre-tests and non-timed interest and placement tests as appropriate to the individual counseling process.
Assists AF students in changing education level codes by preparing appropriate correspondence, forms, and academic documentation required to update individual AF personnel records with their current educational status. After document verification by an Education Specialist or ETS Chief, uploads information to the appropriate databases (Air Force Automated Education Management System (AFAEMS) and/or Military Personnel Data System (MilPDS).
Conducts follow-up activities (phone calls, mail-outs, emails) to ensure individual student educational objectives are being met.
Responsible for preparing all necessary correspondence and forms and maintains related records and logs required to support all aspects of job tasks. Also maintains statistical data as required by the ETS Chief and assists with reports and data collection as requested.
Provides CCAF diplomas to graduates' commanders or to CCAF graduation committee for presentation during the annual CCAF graduation.
Maintains a by-name and date record showing advisement or counseling sessions conducted and submits in person, via e-mail to the ETS Chief, or electronically via AFAEMS, along with a copy of their timecard at the end of each month.
Uses AFAEMS to update/maintain individual student records.
Covers the front desk for walk-in and phone customers.
Assists with publishing marketing material, as needed, and maintaining the local web site and social media sites.
Assists with TA form verifications, monthly metrics, publicity materials, filing, survey collection and compilation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Be capable of a Department of Defense (DoD) Tier 1 Investigation security clearance at the "secret" level or above.
Bachelor's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited American college or university. Course of study should include completion of at least 12 semester hours in psychology, counseling, training and/or education courses. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the education requirement if applicant can demonstrate the foreign education is comparable to education received in an accredited university or college in the United States. The applicant is responsible for providing the equivalent foreign education evidence
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Possess general knowledge of education programs.
Possess knowledge of Air Force (AF) terminology, general office procedures, plus familiarity with Windows, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
Obtain a Dunn & Bradstreet number prior to registering as a government contractor.
