Research Professional 6 Chemistry Description JOB SUMMARY: The Research Professional 6 plays a key role in supporting and advancing collaborative scientific projects within the Center for Multi-Dimensional Chromatography Research and Training at Gustavus. This position is responsible for designing and executing experiments, mentoring undergraduate researchers and visiting scientists, and coordinating research efforts across internal and external teams. The role also involves data analysis, documentation, dissemination of findings, and contributing to grant proposals and manuscript preparation. Employment Type: Full-time (.75 FTE), Non-Exempt (Hourly), Benefits- Eligible Pay Range: $32.00-$40.00 per hour MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Training, Project Management, and Collaboration Provide training, support, and mentoring for undergraduate researchers, and visiting scientists Prepare and deliver training materials for the Multi-Dimensional Chromatography Institute (MDCI) at Gustavus Coordinate activities and communication among research team members, students, and external collaborators Stay current on technological and scientific advancements in the field Experiment Design and Execution Maintain excellent, traceable documentation of experiments (both laboratory and computational) using electronic documentation tools (e.g., Microsoft OneNote, SharePoint, Jupyter Notebooks) Design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments, optimizing methods as necessary, with input from Principal Investigator, group colleagues, and external collaborators Contribute to development of homemade algorithms and infrastructure for control of analytical instruments and data acquisition Maintain laboratory equipment through routine maintenance, and interactions with instrument vendors for troubleshooting purposes Use AI tools to modernize research workflows Documentation, Data Analysis, Dissemination, and Grant Seeking Analyze data using commercial (e.g., Excel, Matlab, R, Python, Spotfire) and homemade (e.g., Matlab scripts) tools Prepare technical reports, data visualizations, and presentations for scientific and public audiences Lead the writing of peer-reviewed manuscripts, technical reports Present research findings at internal group meetings, scientific conferences, and stakeholder meetings Assist with grant proposal preparation (e.g., figure preparation, literature searches and analysis, collection of preliminary data) Prerequisites MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in chemistry or related field Five years collaborative experience contributing to interdisciplinary scientific research projects Past publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals Demonstrated experience in scientific laboratory research, with a focus on measurement science Demonstrated experience in data analysis (e.g., R, Python, Matlab) Excellent organizational and project management abilities Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and adaptive to changing priorities Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective team and stakeholder coordination PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience managing multidisciplinary research teams Research experience in separation science and mass spectrometry Grant writing and budget management experience Experience with numerical simulation, development of web applications, and/or development of algorithms for instrument control How to apply: Visit https://gustavus.edu/jobs/ to complete the online application and submit a resume and any other supporting documents.
