Role Overview :

In this role as a seasonal custodian you will maintain and clean the administration, subdistrict, and testing buildings: cleaning/sanitizing the restrooms; wiping down multiple high-touch surfaces; vacuuming, washing, and polishing floors; moving furniture; performing light maintenance such as painting, changing light bulbs, weeding, trimming, and snow removal; and providing custodial support for multiple meeting rooms. The role of the seasonal custodian is essential to the improvement of customer service, more aggressive cost-saving measures, and innovative solutions. This role is vital at all times to the maintenance and improvement of Indiana's facilities, and by extension, Indiana's roads; to the movement of goods and services; and to the safety of America's Crossroads.

Standard hours of work are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Location :

This position is located in INDOT's LaPorte District.

Salary :

This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $18.00 an hour.

A Day in the Life:

The essential elements of the job duties:

Cleaning all bathrooms, breakrooms, conference rooms, hallways, and stairways.

Washing all floors in the bathrooms, breakrooms, conference rooms, hallways, and stairways.

Running the sweeper in the office/cubicle areas and all carpeted areas.

Emptying all trash containers.

Wiping down all interior/exterior door handles, cubicles, counter tops, stairway railing, chairs, conference room tables/chairs, and copy machines.

Cleaning all microwave ovens, refrigerators, and elevators.

Refilling all soap/foam dispenser's, toilet paper holders, and paper towel dispensers.

Dusting the top of cubicles and window ledges.

Cutting of grass, weed cutting, and flower bed maintenance in the spring.

Shoveling of snow on the sidewalk around the admin building and spreading salt on those sidewalks.

Light maintenance duties around the district with facilities repair specialists.

What You'll Need for Success:

This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:

High School Graduate or Equivalent preferred.

Possess good verbal and written communication and literacy skills

Must possess good interpersonal skills and be team-oriented; and,

Must be able to lift 50 pounds and perform other physical activities such as: stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time, dragging, bending, and/or waving.
