Responsibilities An opportunity exists for a full-time Orthopedic Surgeon at the Milo C. Huempfner Outpatient Clinic, located in Green Bay, WI. The Milo C. Huempfner Outpatient Clinic is a new 162,000 square foot VA primary care and multi-specialty clinic located in Green Bay. The successful candidate should be comfortable performing all aspects of adult Orthopedics. All care will be provided in an outpatient setting only with no inpatient care responsibilities. Qualified candidates should be BE/BC in Orthopedic Surgery. The selected candidate should demonstrate the ability to work well with a large, diverse and dedicated patient care staff. Duties include, but not limited to: Evaluate general Orthopedic conditions through complete history and physical examinations, and develop an operative or non-operative management/ treatment plan. Provide comprehensive Orthopedic care services as well as follow-up care of existing conditions. Provide Pre- and Post-Operative Orthopedic Services. Perform basic orthopedic surgical procedures at the Milo C Huempfner Green Bay HCC twice a week, with the opportunity to perform more complex cases once monthly at the Clement J Zablocki VA in Milwaukee. Conduct 3 times weekly outpatient clinics at the Green Bay HCC, with future opportunity for clinic expansion the Appleton CBOC. Work collaboratively with the Department of Orthopedics at the Clement J Zablocki VA, for operative management and follow up of higher complexity cases. Work collaboratively with the Department of Orthopedics at the Clement J Zablocki VA, providing sign out when necessary, for nightly and weekend call coverage. Work collaboratively with the Department of Orthopedics at the Clement J Zablocki VA, to seek adjunct credentialing at the Medical College of Wisconsin, should there be interest in working with/ teaching residents. Document services through appropriate notes, such as History and Physical, Progress notes, Operative notes, and Discharge Summaries. Educate physicians and staff in the principles and therapy of basic and complex Orthopedic Services/Surgery. Provide patient and family education, including informed consent. Respond to patient telephone calls, informing patients of test/lab results, and renewing medication prescriptions when necessary. Adhere to safety, health, and infection control standards, regulations and work practices, as well as ergonomic standards. Attend required staff meetings, communicating up and down the chain of command, and helping prepare heads-up and issue briefs related to adverse patient outcomes. Complete indirect patient care requirements: open encounter and open consult maintenance, CPRS documentation requirements, monitoring of clinic management. Maintain involvement in matters concerning clinic productivity, relevant performance measures, Quality and Patient Safety oversight, as well as process improvements (system redesigns). Remain privileged and practicing in their specialty field. The exact privileges and procedures for a particular provider will be approved by the Professional Standards Board. Provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life. Demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical and social sciences, and the application of their knowledge to patient care and the education of others. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional Information Full time position available for fellowship trained Sports Medicine or general orthopedic surgeon in Green Bay, Wisconsin. This is a primarily outpatient surgical practice and clinic. Position is located at the Milo C. Huempfner, Green Bay HCC. This modern outpatient health care facility includes an ambulatory surgical center performing APC Basic Procedures. Position is supported by collaboration with the Clement J. Zablocki VAMC in Milwaukee, WI for inpatient care procedures. The Milo C. Huempfner Green Bay VA HCC provides primary care and specialty health services, including mental health care, dentistry and oral surgery, treatment for kidney disease, cancer care, surgery, gastroenterology, gynecology, orthopedics, and more. Orthopedics is supported by expanded radiologic services (including MRI, CT scans, and ultrasound), Prosthetics, Physical/Occupational Therapy, and PM&R. The ambulatory surgical center has 5 operating rooms capable of performing outpatient orthopedic surgical cases (APC Basic Procedures). Common surgeries would include extremity surgeries, arthroscopies, outpatient fracture fixation, and fluoroscopic procedures. Anesthesia services are provided by an experienced cRNA team, under the supervision of the Department of Anesthesia at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI. At the Milo C.
