Summary Serve as a Supervisory Inventory Management Specialist in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) of the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Affairs Health System, Patient Care Service. The Supervisory Inventory Management Specialist is responsible for the supervision of SPS staff and operations in support of a diversified range of medical activities and in support to related functions of the Medical Center or outpatient clinics. Responsibilities Duties consist of the following, but are not limited to: Computes and determines specific requirements for a wide variety of medical/surgical supplies, equipment, and control expenditures. Researches, analyzes and recommends the appropriateness of supply items in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) inventories. Uses knowledge of a broad range of supply relationships to perform sound forecasting of projected requirements. Considers expanding or changing medical programs, increased outpatient visits, eligibility laws, escalating inflationary costs and seasonal adjustments necessary to budget adequate funding to allow sufficient stock inventories. Maintain an acceptable turnover rate and ensures that dormant inactive inventory or long supply inventory does not reduce the availability of uncommitted funding. Determines inventory levels based on procurement lead times, usage fluctuations, seasonal demands and availability of adequate protective storage space and availability of uncommitted funding. Supervises and assures training of a diverse group of employees performing work at the GS-3 through GS-7 level. Develops job descriptions, performance plans, competencies, recommends personnel actions, prepares work schedules, and reviews, approves or disapproves leave requests. Performs administrative and personnel management functions relative to staff supervised and assists in the establishment of guidelines and performance expectations for staff. Observes workers' performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. Provides informal feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance. Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary, but is not limited to such. The incumbent regularly conducts inspections of the SPS section and ward storage closets. A considerable amount of time is spent walking, pushing carts up to 250 pounds, lifting, standing, stooping, crouching, reaching and sitting. Some light/moderate lifting up to 40 pounds will be required to receive and/or verify contents in cases in addition to storing and reorganizing.
