This posting is for an Engineering Manager II position located in the Division One Office in Edenton, NC. This position will serve as the Division Construction Engineer in Division 1. Responsibilities include management and supervision of the Assistant Division Construction Engineer and District Engineers. Administration of construction contracts for roadways and bridges; coordination with central Planning and Design units during preconstruction phases on tri-managed projects; assisting in development and implementation of various Division programs; and responding to inquiries from the public, local governments, news media, etc. regarding DOT policies and procedures, division projects, plans and proposed work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Management prefers applicants with the following:
Experience managing multiple, complex roadway and bridge construction projects both conventional and design build, with a broad scope for completeness, compatibility, compliance with engineering principles, standards, codes and design needs
Experience in performing engineering analysis and preparing technical, statistical, and managerial reports, presenting the information in a public setting
Experience in preconstruction activities in the planning and development of future projects
Experience collaborating with others in finding solutions to controversial or sensitive matters that establish precedents
Experience reviewing engineered plans and details to determine compliance and compatibility with construction and engineering principles, standards, codes, designs, and statutes
Additional Expectations:
Selected applicant will be expected to independently perform engineering analysis and prepare technical, statistical, and managerial reports. Employee must have the ability to communicate well both orally and in written form. Employee will be expected to manage multiple projects and to complete difficult assignments within specified time requirements. The employee must manage the workload of other Engineers; apply engineering principles to difficult or complex engineering problems; and make sound recommendations and decisions. Registration as a Professional Engineer by NC Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors preferred. Must be able to legally operate a State vehicle. Safety toe shoes are required for this position.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of seven years progressive engineering experience including four years of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
