Summary This position is a Medical Records Technician located at the Naytahwaush Health Center, located in Naytahwaush, MN. Responsible for maintaining the medical records files, requesting inactive medical records from the Federal Record Center in accordance to their current procedure. Processes requests for medical information from patient's chart for outside agencies. Applies judgment in determining what is needed, whether the information may be released. Scans documents into the Electronic Health Record to keep primary providers aware of current patient status. Imports documents from a file folder into the Electronic Health Record. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following @type of work and/or tasks: GS-04: 1 year of General Experience OR 2 years above high school. GS-05: 1 year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 Grade Level OR 4 years above high school. GS-06: 1 year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 Grade Level. Specialized Experience Defined: GS-05: Reviewing medical records in a clinic or hospital setting ensuring files are complete and documents are filed correctly; scanning documents into an electronic health record; & preparing correspondence for fax, mail, or personal pickup. GS-06: Receiving, scanning, indexing, and filing of non-electronic medical and administrative information and forms; ensuring clinical and administrative forms are scanned and integrated into the Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS); & conducting quality audits and verifying the integrity and overall quality of scanned images. General Experience: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. This position has promotion potential to the GS-06 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval.
