The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking an accomplished and visionary Asset Management Director to lead the state in a transformative, department-wide approach to asset management. This is a unique opportunity to drive a high-impact state initiative focused on execution of strategies to maximize the value and service life of transportation assets throughout Utah.
This role will lead a division comprised of asset administrators, region asset coordinators, risk and financial model technicians, data analysts, and highway statistics personnel. The successful candidate will develop clear strategic goals for UDOT s asset management program, establish annual performance targets, and recommend financial strategies that improve the agency s overall asset portfolio. This role is essential in unifying efforts across the department to ensure policies and standards optimize investment decisions.
Key Responsibilities
As the Asset Management Director, you will:
Lead Asset Management Division and coordinate strategic alignment in asset decision-making.
Ensure investments are performance-driven, outcome-focused, and aligned with agency goals.
Champion development and execution of statewide asset management strategies, policies, and performance targets.
Coordinate strategic alignment in asset decision-making across programs, regions, and teams.
Oversee asset portfolio performance, including budget planning, financial analysis, and investment recommendations.
Drive data-informed decisions to optimize asset performance, reduce risk, and move from reactive to proactive maintenance.
Lead and develop a matrixed team, managing staffing, assignments, performance, and team growth.
Define frameworks for stakeholder engagement and ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
Sets goals, establishes priorities, manages resources, develops concepts and approaches, reviews project progress and results, makes management decisions.
Minimum Qualifications

[A Bachelor s degree, or higher, in Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field OR equivalent experience (4 years) AND]{#isPasted}
At least ten (10) years of qualifying experience in budgeting, cost analysis, funding strategies, or another related field

ive approach to identifying vulnerabilities and designing controls to protect critical infrastructure assets.
Demonstrates ability to lead high-performing teams and possesses cross-functional collaboration skills.
Knows and understands transportation asset management, capital planning, regulatory compliance, and emerging best practices.
Has a strong capability in analyzing complex data, identifying root causes, and developing practical solutions.
Is a skilled communicator, able to lead cross-functional initiatives, and work with stakeholders at all levels.

Working Conditions - Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
