Position Specific Description

Florida Power & Light Company is seeking a Senior Accountant at the Juno Beach location. In this role, you will report to the Benefits, Investments & Debt Accounting Manager and focus mainly on benefits and investment related activities. This position will also have opportunities for involvement in the team's process improvement initiatives.

Specific duties and responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

Prepare monthly journal entries related to corporate wide benefits and investments and decommissioning trust funds

Prepare accounting treatment analysis for new investments

Prepare account reconciliations for assigned accounts

Support monthly, quarterly & annual reporting and filing requirements (Securities & Exchange Commission, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Florida Public Service Commission)

Prepare Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) certifications as assigned

Assist in developing junior staff

Prepare ad hoc analyses and reports as needed

Support various process improvement initiatives as assigned

Job Overview

Employees in this role develop accounting policy through analysis of GAAP and business practices. Ensures accounting treatment is practical, cost-beneficial and accurately portrays the economic substance of business transactions.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Analyzes proposed transactions for structure and proper accounting treatment under authoritative accounting literature

Reviews changes in technical accounting literature, develops positions and present to management

Maintains awareness of accounting issues being considered by regulatory bodies and advises management of important matters

Ensures consistent application of accounting policies

Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's - Accounting / Finance / Business

Experience: 6+ years

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Master's - Business Administration

Master's - Accounting / Finance

Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
