The Nursing Supervisors may either supervise the Registered Nurses (RN) who are in Civil Service roles, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), and Certified Medical Assistants (CMA), Clinic Assistants (CA) who are a part of the labor represented bargaining unit. The Nursing Supervisors will delegate key nursing functions and responsibilities to qualified personnel and will also perform clinical functions. Assigned responsibilities are carried out in a manner respectful of the rights of patients and staff from diverse populations, and conducive to the efficient, effective delivery of safe, high quality ambulatory care. There will be multiple Nursing Supervisors for Boynton Health who will work together to effectively co-manage all nursing operations and all nursing staff across all of the different sites and clinical areas where ambulatory nursing care is delivered. Administrative Job Responsibilities (20%): Committee participation based on role and assignments Provide direct supervision for RNs, LPNs, CMAs & CAs across all of the clinical patient care areas of Boynton Health where ambulatory nursing care is delivered Recruit, hire, evaluate, and manage the performance of clinical personnel Performance management includes annual performance reviews Develop and direct the onboarding and training process of new clinical staff Monitor compliance with annual competency testing for clinical staff Delegate patient care functions as appropriate based on competency and licensure Coordinate/participate in formulation and ongoing review of patient care policies, procedures, and protocols as well as those relevant to the supervisor role and assignment Collaborate and coordinate with key personnel in the ordering and management of supplies, medications, and equipment Direct and collaborate with the operations team in maintaining effective staffing schedules and daily assignments and promote optimal utilization of clinical personnel Ensure quality standards and requirements are met Collaborate with all nursing supervisors to ensure adequate oversight and coordination for all nursing operations and care delivery Direct nursing meetings as needed or assigned to communicate updates, receive staff input, and provide training Enforce staff adherence to all applicable OSHA guidelines and Boynton Health policies Collaborate with teams across Boynton Health to redesign and improve clinical workflows as needed and ensure quality clinical care is provided Coordinate across Boynton Health to review and implement Electronic Health Record (EHR) workflows and updates as needed Provide administrative support to other nursing teams as needed when nursing supervisors are unavailable Maintain a respectful work environment Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively Other administrative duties as needed for the Nursing Supervisor role Administrative percentage time may vary based on department needs and administrative assignments Clinical Job Responsibilities (80%): Ensure adequate leadership and clinical support in clinical areas including covering for other nursing supervisors as needed Provide ambulatory nursing care to patients in accordance with experience, training, and licensure across several ambulatory clinic areas Implement and follow nursing care according to policies, procedures, and protocols Perform triage duties, either in person or via telephone Assist with/perform medical procedures and treatments Transport patients as necessaryRecognize and respond to medical emergencies and unplanned situations. Perform CPR as needed Provide culturally competent patient health education and counseling Refill prescriptions and complete prior authorizations per protocol Document all care information, as necessary to maintain an accurate record of nursing actions, patients' reaction to care, resulting patient outcomes, and relevant medical communication with patients in the EHR Start and maintain intravenous fluids Duties may also include delegation to other clinical and non-clinical staff as appropriated based on their licensure, competency, and scope of practice The Nursing Supervisor will support the mission, vision and values of Boynton Health by: Committing to centering students everyday Communicating with respect Staying curious and acting with compassion Being accountable to our actions Actively listening, sharing ideas and solutions Using data to inform actions Stewarding resources with care Qualifications Required Qualifications Completion of accredited professional nursing program, preferably with BA/BS degree BSN plus 4 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least 8 years Licensure by the state of Minnesota to practice nursing without restrictions or limitations Competency and knowledge of EHR system At least two years of increasing related job responsibilities or duties CPR certification Preferred Qualifications Completion of accredited professional nursing program with BA/BS degree Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds At least two years of supervisory or management experience Physical and Environmental Conditions Mobility to work in a typical clinic setting and use standard equipment Strength and agility to lift up to 25 pounds of force frequently, 50 pounds occasionally Standing, walking and/or sitting for long periods of time Some bending, twisting, stooping, and stretching Operation of a keyboard Possible exposure to communicable disease and medical preparations in the clinic setting Ability to demonstrate immune status to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella and hepatitis B Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms Ability to push and pull wheelchairs, gurneys, oxygen tanks and IV poles Qualifications Acquired on the job: University of Minnesota Supervisory Training program Annual CPR certification BBPE/MERTKA annually HIPAA Training About the Department About Boynton Health Boynton.umn.edu Boynton Health's mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of University of Minnesota students and the campus community.
