The Senior Director reports to the Chancellor or the Chancellor's Senior Strategist designee, and indirectly to the University of Minnesota System Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. The Senior Director serves as a member of the campus leadership team, providing creative, thoughtful and values-driven management in the areas of financial and facilities oversight and planning. This position works in-person in Rochester, MN. This role is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. During the next three years of exponential growth, UMR will be engaged in a significant expansion of facilities, to be overseen by this position. The Senior Director equips the chancellor and vice chancellors to make critical decisions by providing reliable, timely information and system-aligned procedures. The Senior Director for Finance and Facilities oversees the experienced Business Office Director and the Director of Facilities and Operations providing priorities, project management, work direction, and general supervision. RESPONSIBILITIES Finance 50% Provide oversight for UofM Rochester's financial resources at the direction of UMN Rochester senior leadership, assuring unquestionable integrity and fiduciary compliance in alignment with our institutional values; Advise the Chancellor and work collaboratively with senior administrators on all matters relative to the fiscal standing, structure, and financial processes; Develop financial plans and financial analysis models for the campus in cooperation with University of Minnesota System colleagues and UMR senior leaders, which include innovative solutions, strategies and procedures to enhance efficiencies; sustain quality during a period of strategic growth; and ensure compliance with University policies and applicable state and federal laws Oversee operating budgets, providing accurate and timely information to the chancellor and vice chancellors; real estate and leases, in cooperation with University of Minnesota system Real Estate and Planning colleagues; and accounting and business services. Guide the development, submission, implementation, and monitoring of UMN Rochester's operating budgets including annual budget request; Collaborate with Human Resources to provide oversight of the payroll process; and Monitor and ensure chancellor-approved budgets to ensure a balanced budget. Facilities 35% Oversee facilities planning, construction and maintenance; campus contracts, in cooperation with University of Minnesota system colleagues in the Office of General Counsel; and collaborate with Vice Chancellor for Student Life on campus safety and security including emergency operations and continuity planning. Oversee the P3 facilities expansion of UMR, anticipated to begin in 2026, serving as the liaison between local developers and University of Minnesota System Real Estate and Planning, in collaboration with UMR's Director of Facilities and Operations. Leadership 15% Supervise the Business Office and Facilities Management staff; Participate in Chancellor Senior Leaders meetings when relevant topics are on the agenda; Participate in University of Minnesota System committees addressing budget models and approaches, as needed; and Ensure the campus community has transparent and timely information regarding the UofM Rochester budget and facilities plans and challenges. Strong knowledge and experience with higher education finance and facilities. Evidence of a strong work ethic, creativity, organizational skills, effective time management given complex and sometimes competing priorities, resourcefulness, and efficiency; A proven ability to be a creative and flexible problem-solver and to ensure evidence-based decision making; Willingness to work at both strategic and detail levels on a daily basis; Experience with aligning programs and processes with a strategic plan; Demonstrated ability to collaborate in development of a strategy and then to communicate the rationale for the strategy and oversee its implementation; Ability to effectively accomplish work by managing people well; and Willingness to work in-person at the Rochester campus of the University of Minnesota, managing daily operations in finance and facilities management; Connection to UMR's innovative and collaborative culture and mission; Qualifications Essential: An earned bachelor's degree from an accredited university in finance, accounting, business management or related fields such as public administration; and A minimum of six years experience managing fiscal and physical resources in a higher education or other public, non-profit environment, to include a record of progressively responsible financial analysis and management experience Preferred: Evidence of strong writing and oral communication skills and excellence and effectiveness in preparing written documents and reports as well as making professional presentations to a variety of groups, including senior management. A Master's Degree in Business Administration or Finance; with a minimum of four years of progressively responsible positions in managing fiscal and physical resources, to include a record of progressively responsible financial analysis and management experience; and Experience in developing and implementing financial strategies to support growth in a complex higher education organization is strongly preferred.
