Summary The role of a Medical Support Assistant (MSA) involves serving as a Clerical Associate for Specialty Clinic the Robley Rex VAMC main campus. This position entails providing essential administrative and clerical support to outpatient programs, ensuring smooth operations and efficient patient care coordination. The MSA works closely with the Clinical Staff to adopt a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to patient care, emphasizing collaboration and teamwork to deliver high quality services. Responsibilities Duties include but not limited to: The MSA is the primary point of contact for veterans and beneficiaries who are seeking treatment, experiencing issues, or requesting information related to the facility and its associated clinics. In addition to these responsibilities, the MSA is also tasked with performing various clerical duties, providing customer service, and ensuring the proper and timely treatment of patients. Thie MSA is in charge of maintaining appointment schedules for one or more outpatient clinics, and adjusting appointment times, locations, or dates as needed to accommodate patients and ensure clinic access. The MSA is also responsible for upholding patient safety standards by correctly identifying all patients using two forms of identification, such as name and full social security number, as well as the Veterans Identification Card (VIC). The MSA must use each interaction with the patient to validate and update their demographic information and explain the VA's mandate to collect insurance information to veterans, their families, and other eligible patients. This includes collecting, scanning, and updating health insurance information, and identifying patients with third party insurance to contribute to the revenue collection process. As a front-line contact with patients and staff, the MSA plays a crucial role in shaping the perception of the quality of healthcare services at the VA. This requires a high degree of tact and diplomacy, especially when dealing with veterans who may be frustrated with the administrative process associated with diagnosis and treatment. Candidates must demonstrate all of the KSAs below: Ability to meet, communicate, and interact with individuals from varying backgrounds and other health care team members in a courteous and helpful manner in order to facilitate medical care for patients. Ability to use, and navigate between, various @types of office automation equipment and software (i.e. computer systems, web based scheduling programs; insurance collection system; scanning software, multiple line phone systems; electronic faxing programs) to support patient care. GS-05 Medical Support Assistant (Full Performance Level) Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level; OR, Education. Four years of education above high school. Candidates must demonstrate all of the KSAs below: Ability to operate computerized programs and systems in order to enter, modify, and retrieve sensitive medical and patient identifying information (PII) into or from electronic health records, scheduling systems, and/or reports.
