Description of Work Unit
The NREL is a research unit at Colorado State University with a mission "to ensure the sustainability of the Earth's ecosystems through the generation and application of new knowledge." The department's interdisciplinary, ecosystem research promotes collaborations among disciplines and across fields of expertise at CSU and throughout the world.
Position Summary
The post-doctoral scientist will use the DayCent model to conduct dedicated simulations of GHG emissions associated with farm enterprises (crop rotation and management practice combinations) at the HUC 8 watershed scale for the conterminous United States. These simulations will provide region-specific GHG emissions estimates for crop enterprises, supporting the Regional Environment and Agriculture Programming Model ( REAP ) team at the USDA Economic Research Service. The REAP team will use the estimates to evaluate impacts of adopting alternative crop management practices in different parts of the US, based upon changes in policy or agricultural market conditions.
Required Job Qualifications
Ph.D. in Soil Science, Ecology or similar degree
Demonstrated experience applying ecosystem process-based models
Preferred Job Qualifications
Expertise applying ecosystem process-based models to simulate soil C and N dynamics
Expertise with regional scale modeling analyses
Expertise with R and Python
Expertise with the DayCent Ecosystem Model
Publication record that presents original research in ecosystem science
