Overview:
We are seeking an experience and motivated Senior Systems Engineer to provide support and technical leadership as a Modeling & Simulation Integration Engineering to directly support Systems Engineering and Integration for various NASA Programs, including SLS, HLS, and MAV, supporting the corresponding Lead System Engineer in the certification of critical models and simulations and their incorporation to the corresponding Design Model Logs. This is an exciting and challenging leadership and integration position that requires creativity, innovation, collaboration, and consensus building with leadership and technical experts across virtually all disciplines and stakeholders. We are looking for an integral team player who works collaboratively with others, and who can also work independently, coordinate projects, develop and learn new skills, and maintain communication with various stakeholders while working on multiple simultaneous projects.
The candidate will provide and perform the following tasks:
Provide direct support to LSE on required deliverables for SLS Level 2 as needed, including Design Model Log volumes, Modeling and Simulation Plan, Design Model Delivery Standard.
Contributes to the coordinate and integrate the planning, development, oversight, and scheduling of resources for multi-phase projects.
Support LSE on boards, meetings, and action items as needed.
Identifies alternative approaches or compromises to develop the most effective technical solutions.
Ensures team members and stakeholders are trained in M&S processes and procedures.
Review proposed models and determine if they meet the criteria of being categorized as critical and tracked by the corresponding Program, including SLS, MAV, and HLS.
Supports model developers in developing the metadata associated with their Model.
Develops, populates, and incorporates inputs onto the Programs' design baseline.
Performs functional integration assessments related to model validation.
Coordinates and helps ensure that all models meet appropriate documentation and approval milestones.
Provides guidance to model owners to characterize their metadata.
Measures and tracks the maturity level of models, simulations, and their metadata across the corresponding Programs.
Serve as a System Engineering representative to Critical Models & Simulations (CMS) reviews:
Reviews key technical information and ensures that it is complete and accurate.
Lead reviews and obtain concurrence and approval of CMS.
Provides System Engineering concurrence that CMS metadata meets all of the stated objectives and is ready for use by the corresponding Program.
Required Qualifications :
A degree in Computer, Aerospace, Industrial, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field or a BS in a technical discipline such as Computer Science is required. Degree from an ABET accredited institution is preferred. Typically, experience requirement is the equivalent of a Master's degree with at least 18 total years of modeling and simulation experience or a BS with at least 20 total years of relevant experience in systems engineering and integration.
The candidate is also required to have:
Technical integration experience working with a variety of engineering disciplines and project/program organizations.
Experience communicating to upper management and decision makers: "communicating to the top".
Outstanding negotiation skills demonstrated through complex technical problem solving and the capability to break down complex problems or issues into manageable pieces to facilitate resolution of technical concerns or issues.
Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relation skills, and presentation skills.
Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Desired (presence of one or more of these qualifications will be used as discriminating factors in selecting applicants):
Experience/knowledge of NASA Systems Engineering policies and procedures.
Knowledge in the development and maintenance of JIRA tools for project management and product life cycle.
Knowledge of NASA-STD-7009, NASA Standard for Models and Simulations.
Familiarity with the DOD Instruction 5000.61, DOD Modeling and Simulation Verification, Validation, and Accreditation.

Physical Requirements
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and other facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance
Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
