Summary The Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) performs ongoing patient care duties in the Emergency Department of the Atlanta VA Health Care System as a part of Nursing and Patient Care Service. Responsibilities Duties may include but are not limited to: Collects patient specimen including blood and/or urine, sputum, stool Collects patient data by screening for medication usage and health related conditions Assists patient with activities of daily living (ADL) including bathing, voiding, and ambulating Performs clinical tasks including obtaining blood glucose levels, applying bandages to wounds and patient education Use appropriate personal protective equipment when caring for patients Measures and records amount of food/liquids consumed by patients Performs 12-Lead EKG Performs peripheral IV catheter insertion and collects blood using phlebotomy skills Provides care to patients on 1:1 observation Provides care of patients with supplemental oxygen requirements Assists patient with mobility utilizing safe patient handling equipment Uses electronic patient documentation system Measures vital statistics including blood pressure, weight, respiration rate, heart rate Performs nasal specimen collection using aseptic technique Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.
