Job Summary:
Responsible for performing preventative, predictive, routine, and emergency maintenance on process plant equipment, including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, communication, and control systems in a timely manner to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.
Strength in technical problem solving based on expertise and experience, and a strong commitment to efficiently achieve high-quality results is required. A thoughtful, persevering, self-disciplined approach to achieving accurate, detailed work is essential.
Normal work hours for this position are a rotating 10-hour shift, Monday through Friday, with a rotating evening and weekend on-call schedule. Extended work hours are required during a plant shutdown.
Major Responsibilities:
Complete all maintenance repairs on related process plant equipment to maintain overall plant reliability which includes operating all hand and power tools and other equipment required to perform maintenance duties.
Perform proactive maintenance and project work. Assist in design, review, and fabrication of items/materials used throughout the plant. Perform welding and cutting with acetylene and arc welding equipment to maintain overall plant reliability.
Communicate maintenance issues to operations and recommend necessary changes to process equipment operation. Maintain strong awareness of plant operational concerns through operations daily logs and communication with operations. Follow-up on identified operational deficiencies.
Participate in daily maintenance meetings to review plant issues, prioritize, and schedule maintenance activities. Assist in the evaluation of equipment failures to determine cause of major or recurring failures and in establishing actions that should be taken to prevent recurrence of problem.
Maintain assigned tools, shop tools, and shop equipment in good working condition and free from safety hazards. Responsible for toolbox and tools issued by the company. Clean and organize work area in the shop and on plant site.
Enter and close work orders in CMMS program. Also pull parts and assist with minor warehouse activities. Maintain a high completion percentage and low backlog on work orders assigned. Maintain accurate records of plant equipment to provide history of plant operation.
Communicate with vendors/manufacturers for additional support if needed and to help obtain part quotes for needed items.
Assist in the development of programs and procedures for operation and maintenance of process equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
Ensure compliance with environmental policies, procedures, laws and regulations. Report all noncompliance and endorse all aspects of company's environmental management system.
Promote all aspects of company's safety program, maintain safety awareness, report all unsafe acts or conditions that may cause injury to plant personnel or damage equipment and report and investigative accidents.
Assists in emergency response activities and drills to the degree of training provided; including incipient firefighting, chemical release, spill response, first aid, and other environmental or emergency actions as required.
Periodically oversees and directs the work of contractors.
Key Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge of all plant equipment, including basic mechanical, electrical, and engineering abilities
Knowledge of all plant systems and processes, and technology used to assess plant conditions to a degree that will aid in procurement of necessary data
Knowledge of materials, drawings, and applications
Knowledge of essential maintenance and administrative record-keeping practices
Knowledge of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
Basic skills in word, Excel, Outlook and maintaining databases
Skills in hand and power tools, welding and rigging
Skills in planning, analyzing, and organizing
Ability to read and understanding Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (PandIDs), instruction manuals, drawings, parts breakdowns, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Must live within a one-hour drive time of the plant location
Must have a valid driver's license
High school diploma or equivalent required plus two years of vocational/technical training in the various phases of welding, pipefitting, electrical, electronic, or instrumentation and controls, or other related industrial mechanical maintenance training is required. An associate degree in electrical, electronic, or instrumentation and controls, or industrial maintenance can be substituted for the two years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience at a production, process, power, or manufacturing facility.
