As a Patent Attorney in the Technology and Intellectual Property Legal Team, you will oversee the invention intake process, coordinate patent prosecution efforts, and engage in inventor outreach and education. You will acquire in-depth knowledge of the relevant line of business and develop effective protection strategies aligned with the strategic priorities of business partners. Job responsibilities:
Oversee the invention intake process, including the evaluation of invention disclosures and the formulation of appropriate protection strategies.
Coordinate patent prosecution efforts with outside counsel, ensuring the review of draft applications and office action responses to maintain high-quality work and service standards.
Engage in inventor outreach and education, participate in invention harvesting and brainstorming sessions, and contribute to both internal and external innovation-related events.
Acquire in-depth knowledge of the relevant line of business and develop effective protection strategies aligned with the strategic priorities of business partners.
Offer legal guidance to business partners on intellectual property issues.
Keep abreast of changes in patent laws, regulations, and industry trends to ensure compliance and maintain a strategic edge.
Support other intellectual property-related matters as needed.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school, with an active license to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.
Registered as a patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
3 to 5 years of relevant patent experience within a law firm or corporate law department.
Extensive experience in all aspects of patent prosecution, including collaboration with inventors and the drafting and prosecution of patent applications.
Strong understanding of patent law, particularly regarding patent eligibility under 35 U.S.C. § 101 as it applies to software.
Proven ability to independently identify issues, analyze problems, and develop effective solutions.
Strong communication and interaction skills, capable of engaging with personnel and management at all levels, including senior executives.
Ability to perform accurately under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks in a high-performance environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build consensus within a global matrix organization.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a software related field.
Extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications related to software.
In-house experience managing outside counsel.
Experience in reviewing work products prepared by outside counsel, associates, or patent agents.
Familiarity with patent management and docketing systems. All candidates for roles in the Legal department must be licensed to practice law in the country of employment and successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
