Description We are looking for a dedicated Medical Unit Clerk to join our team in Shelton, Washington. This Contract-to-Permanent position offers an opportunity to support a locked mental health facility that provides essential care for adults experiencing psychiatric emergencies. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the accuracy and organization of medical records while collaborating closely with clinicians, nurses, and doctors.

Responsibilities:

Review and organize patient charts to ensure all medical records are accurate and complete.

Collaborate with medical staff to follow up on missing documentation, signatures, or required updates.

Scan and upload essential patient information into electronic systems, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Verify that medical notes align with recommended treatments, pharmacy referrals, and patient visit dates.

Conduct daily audits of charts to ensure compliance with census requirements and internal checklists.

Prepare charts for referrals and ensure they meet standards for pharmacy documentation or patient history closures.

Maintain strong organizational practices to identify and resolve deficiencies in records.

Communicate effectively with busy medical staff, using a diplomatic yet assertive approach to meet deadlines.

Utilize medical terminology and charting expertise to clean up and manage disorganized records.

Support the auditing process to ensure all records meet compliance standards. Requirements - At least 1 year of experience in medical records management or a related role.

Proficiency with electronic medical record systems, such as Allscripts and EHR.

Strong knowledge of medical terminology and charting practices.

Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and confidentiality standards.

Advanced skills in Excel and general Office applications.

Ability to perform clerical duties with precision, including scanning and organizing patient records.

Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
