We're looking for a Financial Director with strong experience managing federal grants-specifically SCSEP and TARC-and a sharp understanding of nonprofit financial operations. This role will oversee payroll to ensure all staff are paid accurately and on time, The Financial Director will become familiar with all active accounts, including which are used for monthly recurring expenses, and maintain an up-to-date understanding of which banks hold which accounts, especially our investment accounts and their signatories. They'll also be responsible for researching and tracking all grants currently in place and ensuring full compliance with financial reporting requirements.

Position Overview:

The Financial Director is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the fiscal operations of NICOA. This position ensures compliance with federal grants, manages organizational budgets and accounts, and provides strategic financial guidance to the executive team. A deep understanding of grant-funded programs-particularly SCSEP and TARC-is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Federal Grants & Compliance

Ensure compliance with all financial requirements and reporting deadlines for federal grants.

Specifically oversee financials related to SCSEP and TARC grants.

Research and maintain awareness of all active grants and their financial guidelines.

Payroll Management

Prepare and execute timely payroll for all staff.

Ensure direct deposits and checks are issued correctly, with particular attention to timely disbursement (e.g., January 31, 2025 payroll).

Accounts & Banking Oversight

Gain comprehensive knowledge of all NICOA financial accounts.

Track which accounts are used for recurring monthly obligations.

Maintain detailed understanding of NICOA's bank relationships, including:

Investment accounts

Authorized signatories for each account

Budgeting & Forecasting

Support annual and project-specific budget development.

Monitor expenditures and forecast future financial trends.

Provide regular financial updates and strategic insights to the Executive Director.

Audit & Reporting

Prepare and assist with audits, including grant-specific audits.

Ensure accurate and timely reporting to funders and stakeholders.

Team Collaboration

Coordinate with HR, Programs, and Development teams for budgeting and financial planning.

Support and advise leadership on fiscal policy and strategy.

Required Qualifications:

Proven experience managing federal grants (SCSEP and TARC preferred)

Strong background in nonprofit or government financial operations

Proficient in payroll processing and accounting systems

Deep understanding of nonprofit budgeting, audits, and compliance

Experience working with multiple financial accounts and banking institutions

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in financial oversight

Requirements - Proven experience in financial analysis, grant management, and payroll processing.

Proficiency in business systems, CRM tools, and data mining techniques.

Strong knowledge of accounting functions, auditing standards, and budget processes.

Familiarity with tools such as Crystal Reports and About Time for financial reporting.

Ability to manage multiple accounts and oversee investment portfolios.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Strong communication skills to collaborate with program directors and stakeholders.

Capability to research and identify grant opportunities effectively.
