As a Mechanical Systems Design Engineer, you'll support new designs and modifications for aircraft structures and systems, focusing on the development of high-quality, timely design solutions. You'll work closely with cross-functional engineering teams and contribute throughout the product life cycle-from initial concept through to in-service support.
Responsibilities:
Perform autonomous design solution development of moderate to complex mechanical systems, including metallic/non-metallic structures and system installations (electrical, hydraulic, fuel).
Support project phases including part design, layout optimization, trade studies, weight reduction initiatives, certification activities, and in-service product support.
Create and modify design documentation (Design Datasets, Product Structures, etc.) using advanced engineering tools (SAP, CATIA, VPM, and others).
Collaborate with Static Stress, Fatigue & Damage Tolerance (F&DT), and other internal teams to deliver optimal design solutions.
Guide project execution from concept through completion, ensuring technical quality, efficiency, and alignment with customer requirements.
Serve as a technical mentor and contribute to the development of junior engineers.
Utilize or work toward obtaining Authorizer or Approver Technical Signatory status.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering, with a focus on structural design, analysis, or mechanics of materials.
Minimum of 9 years of design experience in airframe structures and/or aircraft system installation.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Demonstrated expertise using design software such as CATIA and enterprise tools like SAP.
Ability to write technical reports and communicate complex ideas effectively across teams.
Self-motivated, dependable, and capable of working independently.
Understanding of maintenance repair shop processes and aircraft system capabilities.
Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Willingness to travel up to ~5% domestically; international travel may occur based on project requirements.
