The Role

Plans, designs and oversees the construction of new or expanded facilities. Prepares architectural, engineering, and cost estimates, functional studies, construction plans, specifications, and schedules. Obtains and supervises outside contractors. Recommends architectural and engineering design procedures and standards for the planning and design of facilities. Supervises the detailed design, budgetary costing, standardized construction, and final inspection of facility projects. Conducts construction surveillance to ensure adherence to contractual requirements. Provides engineering consulting services to local and divisional offices.

This position will support facilities in either the technical services, project management, or crane engineering team. This position manages the design and construction of electrical, mechanical and structural work/systems associated with utility infrastructure, building and other industrial construction projects. Position provides engineering services to review codes, calculations, drawings, specifications, design oversight, construct-ability, and material selection/substitutions to support assigned work. Position is responsible for performing contractor management, troubleshooting design or construction conflicts and provides technical solutions, performs project specific safety assessments/audits, quality control and quality inspection to design standards, preparation of startup and commissioning documents including checklists, operating procedures, and training for all assigned work. Conducts construction surveillance to ensure adherence to contractual requirements. Provides on-site resolution of engineering problems encountered during construction. Investigates problems incurred during testing and operations, resolves problems and directs re-tests to ensure the satisfactory performance of the system. Position also involves close coordination and management of multiple construction projects with multiple stakeholders, customers, maintenance, and operations personnel.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant exempt experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

Fundamental of Engineering (FE) is preferred

Knowledge of National Building Codes, Plumbing Codes, Mechanical Codes, AISC, ACI, NEC, ASME, NFPA, AWS, and OSHA regulations is a plus

Heavy industrial facilities experience is a plus
