Cost Accountant

Description

Our client is looking for a Cost Accountant to join their team today! As a Cost Accountant, you'll take ownership of project financials-tracking expenditures, analyzing variances, supporting billing, and maintaining accurate WIP (work-in-progress) records. This role is critical for ensuring financial control and forecasting for active construction projects.

Coordinate with Project Managers to develop, update, and monitor project budgets and WIP schedules

Review and verify subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, AIA draw requests

Prepare monthly journal entries, GL reconciliations, and support accurate month-end close cycles

Analyze cost variances, document trends, and suggest corrective actions to PMs and finance leadership

Maintain the WIP ledger and reconcile inventory and cost-subledger balances

Support audit readiness by organizing documentation and assisting with internal/external audits

Develop and generate cost forecasts, cash flow reports, and financial summaries for stakeholders

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

2-5 years of cost or construction accounting experience

Proficiency with accounting and ERP software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage?300, Viewpoint, Procore, Foundation)

Strong understanding of AIA documents, job costing, inventory valuation, accrual accounting, and GAAP

Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, cash flow modeling)

Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication
