Why You'll Love This Role Cribl is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and grow the team behind Cribl Lake, our cloud-native data lake built for long-term, full-fidelity observability data storage. Cribl Lake enables customers to ingest, store, and query data in open formats like JSON and Parquet without vendor lock-in or the need for expensive hot storage. With seamless integrations across the Cribl suite, Lake helps teams efficiently organize data into datasets, search it in place using Cribl Search, and replay it through Stream for downstream analysis, compliance, and incident response. As Engineering Manager for Lake, you'll lead a remote-first, cross-functional team responsible for building and scaling Lake's core platform, ranging from ingestion and schema management to storage organization and search enablement. You'll help shape the foundation of Cribl's long-term data strategy, collaborating across teams to deliver a cohesive, high-performance customer experience. Build, lead, and support a diverse and inclusive engineering team that values code quality, ownership, and customer outcomes.

Partner with product management and engineering leadership to define and deliver the roadmap for Lake.

Guide the team in designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining scalable features across the Lake platform, with an emphasis on performance and reliability.

Ensure engineering best practices are followed and team members are growing in alignment with Cribl's career ladder.

Drive cross-team collaboration, especially with Cribl Search, Stream, and internal infrastructure teams, to build cohesive and integrated experiences.

Foster a strong DevOps culture with a focus on observability, operational readiness, and proactive incident prevention.

This position will require stand-by, on-call, or off-hours duties.

If You've Got It - We Want It

Have 4+ years of engineering management experience, with a track record of hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers in distributed systems environments.

Bring expertise in cloud-native storage systems, object storage (e.g. S3), file formats like Parquet or JSON, or high-throughput ingestion architectures.

Be comfortable working in fast-paced environments and balancing delivery with quality and technical debt management.

Be an excellent communicator who can articulate complex technical concepts and drive alignment across functions.

Have professional experience with Go, Node.js, or similar technologies-or a demonstrated ability to lead in unfamiliar technical stacks.

Have a background in distributed systems, backend infrastructure at scale, and operational excellence.

Salary Range ($190,000 - $260,000) The salary for this role is dependent on geographic location. The salary offered within the range described will be based on the individual candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
