The Thielen Student Health Center at Iowa State University is seeking a full-time Medical Technologist / Medical Lab Scientist to join a dedicated healthcare team that serves a vibrant and diverse student population. This is an opportunity to contribute to student wellness while working with advanced laboratory equipment in a supportive setting focused on accuracy, quality, and service.
This position offers a set weekday schedule (Monday-Friday, either 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM) with no on-call, no weekends, and no holidays-providing exceptional work-life balance alongside meaningful clinical work.
What you'll do:
Perform complex and routine clinical laboratory tests with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Analyze, interpret, and validate lab results, ensuring timely communication of critical findings to healthcare providers
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and automated systems
Prepare and analyze specimens, including blood, urine, and body fluids
Follow and support laboratory quality assurance standards and comply with all regulatory requirements
Assist clinicians in selecting appropriate diagnostic tests and ensuring proper specimen collection
Participate in the evaluation and enhancement of lab protocols and standard operating procedures
Monitor inventory levels and coordinate supply orders to ensure seamless lab operations
Provide guidance and mentorship to students and entry-level staff within the lab setting
