Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Head of Business & Legal Affairs, the Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs will be responsible for leading the business and legal affairs for Telemundo's and NBCUniversal's scripted and non-scripted productions supporting Telemundo Studios and NBCUniversal International Networks and DTC Latin America and Telemundo's streaming and monetization business and legal strategy.
Job Duties:
Strategic business partner to the production executives and creatives to identify and resolve business and legal opportunities and issues (including issues relating to contract interpretation).
Negotiate option, development, rights acquisition, production, and above-the-line talent (e.g., writers, producers, directors, and cast) agreements.
Provide counsel on development and production deal structures and documentation for internal and third-party projects.
Manage the day-to-day business and legal affairs issues in connection with the production of scripted and non-scripted shows.
Review rights analysis and clearances for all productions.
Manage, train and mentor a multijurisdictional team of business and legal affairs executives and attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff.
Maintain relationships with talent agencies and managers, attorneys, and other representatives in the entertainment community.
Advise all key company departments involved in the production and distribution of content, including Production, Promotion, and Talent etc. in connection with complex business and legal matters.
Advise and support Telemundo's streaming strategy in business discussions, negotiations, and contract drafting.
Draft, review, analyze and interpret an extensive range of agreements and other commercial contracts (including, but not limited to, third party service agreements, sales and marketing agreements, promotional agreements, licenses, and intellectual property agreements) and provide timely and thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues.
Provide general advice and legal support to the business.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 10 years combined television business affairs and/or legal affairs experience at a media company and/or law firm with substantial media practice, with emphasis in the area of productions in US, LATAM and Spain.
Demonstrated extensive knowledge of entertainment transactions.
J.D. from accredited US law school, demonstrated academic achievement and current bar membership in good standing.
Spanish verbal and written skills.

Additional Requirements:
This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
