This position allows for a hybrid arrangement with a mix of work from home and in the office. Depending on your location, this opportunity offers a generous relocation package.
You may be assigned to multiple project teams, coordinate with other disciplines, and lead the electrical team members in the execution of their project work. The projects may involve the design of new and/or modifications and upgrades to existing facilities, structures, systems, and components. In addition to personally performing and contributing to the engineering efforts, you will help to communicate project status and coordinate resources from multiple Sargent & Lundy (S&L) offices. It is anticipated that the majority of the work will be associated with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and the Sandia National Laboratory (SNL); however, there may be opportunities to participate in projects around the Department of Energy Complex (such as WIPP, Pantex, Hanford, etc.). Working under the direction of the New Mexico Operations Vice President who is based in Albuquerque, this position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your skills in design, management, and client management.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading project engineering teams and mentoring other electrical engineers
Preparing design drawings, engineering analyses, and construction specifications
Leading engineering studies, alternative analyses, and conceptual design efforts to drive scope of work
Interfacing directly with clients and leading technical aspects of client presentations
Overseeing engineering support of construction and field activities for completed designs, including submittal reviews, resolving questions, reviewing test reports, etc.
Overseeing deliverables by providing peer reviews and/or independent design reviews of work by other electrical engineers
Close coordination with and management of client interfaces and scope of work as technical lead
Resource planning, coordination of resources, and assistance with integration of project participants
Internal and external tracking, management, and reporting of project budget and schedule progress
Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget
Qualifications
Must be a U.S. Citizen; Dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify.
Essential skills and experience:
Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance
BSEE degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program; MSEE preferred
5+ years of progressive responsible experience in electrical engineering ideally in a nuclear environment
Experience with electrical engineering software for design and analysis, including SKM PowerTools, AutoCAD, and lighting design software
Candidates shall possess a working knowledge of operations in DOE nuclear facilities
Familiarity with NQA-1 Quality Assurance programs and procedures
Good verbal and written communication skills along with strong PC skills are required
Knowledge of codes and standards for electrical work, NFPA 70, 70E, 101, IEEE, etc.
PE license or on path to obtain one in first year
Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role
Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others
Valued but not required skills and experience:
Experience in engineering design using Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
Construction planning, oversight, and safety, especially in a highly regulated environment like a DOE national laboratory, is highly desirable
Construction and start-up experience a plus
Commissioning experience a plus
